The Ukrainian Navy uses intelligence and equipment provided by NATO to inflict frequent strikes on the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Navy with concealed semi-submersible unmanned boats. At the same time, the U.S. Navy's Eisenhower carrier strike group is being chased by the Houthis in the Red Sea with rudimentary missiles and drones. This mode of asymmetric warfare has caused great distress to the US and Russian forces, and has thoroughly revealed the fundamental transformation of future naval operations. For Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and other countries that are not optimistic about the security situation and are weak, a solution is urgently needed. Fortunately, China offers them a perfect solution at this juncture.
At the second World Defense Exhibition in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, Chinese exhibitors presented a range of equipment suitable for use by small-scale navies. One of the most striking is a new type of stealth combat ship and a large underwater unmanned underwater vehicle supporting it. These two pieces of equipment look low-key from the outside, but they are actually one of the solutions to the dilemma that the United States and Russia are now facing. The A2000 unmanned boat launched by Poly Defense is designed in a three-body configuration with powerful firepower and electronic equipment. It is equipped with a 30 mm cannon and can perform anti-piracy, anti-mine and counter-ship missions against similar ships, and may have the role of a close defense gun. In addition, the A2000 is equipped with active phased array radars, sea search and fire control radars, infrared imaging or optoelectronic detection equipment, etc. There is also a missile vertical launch unit in the middle and rear of the hull, which can launch short-range anti-aircraft missiles or light anti-ship missiles, which increases the diversity of tasks. Of most interest is its UAV hangar, which protects UAVs in high sea conditions. This A2000 unmanned boat adopts a stealth design, combined with a high degree of situational awareness and the full performance of radar and sensing systems, with a terrifying maritime combat capability, and may also become a defender of the sea.
The large unmanned underwater vehicle, presented with the A2000, may become the most needed equipment for the Russian Black Sea Fleet. At present, the Ukrainian Navy has successfully used semi-submersible unmanned boats to attack at night, mainly because the targets of such unmanned boats are small, and it is difficult for Russia's sea search radar to accurately identify and locate, let alone guide shore fire prevention to destroy. However, if there is a large unmanned underwater vehicle, the situation will be completely different. Such large unmanned underwater vehicles are more stealthy and can even be on standby at the bottom of the sea. Unmanned boats do not have the ability to detect underwater targets, so as long as there are several such unmanned underwater vehicles patrolling the perimeter of the port, they can effectively intercept and destroy those semi-submersible unmanned boats that are close. Even if the unmanned boat operator perceives that they are being intercepted, they can only choose to detonate it early without causing any personnel**. This large unmanned underwater vehicle uses shaftless pump propulsion, which has stronger underwater silent performance. Equipped with sonar, fuel tanks and engines, and torpedoes, the vessel is versatile enough to perform more complex anti-ship or anti-submarine missions.
In fact, Russia has a reputation for having an unmanned underwater vehicle, and even specially modified a nuclear submarine to carry such a super-large unmanned underwater vehicle. However, this equipment is not suitable for intercepting small semi-submersible unmanned boats of the Ukrainian Navy in such an environment in the Black Sea, probably because Russian unmanned underwater vehicles cannot perform such complex tasks, or there are other unknown reasons that lead to the frequent manufacture of semi-submersible unmanned boats of the Ukrainian Navy in the Crimea region**. In fact, it is not surprising that both the United States and Russia are now faced with the problem that their ships are unable to respond quickly to small but critical changes, and can only use the methods of the previous generation to deal with the next threat, which has led to their current predicament.
This article explores the phenomenon of black humor in naval warfare in the current geopolitical landscape and the solutions that China offers in this environment. These solutions include the A2000 unmanned boat and the large unmanned underwater vehicle on display by China, which can solve the asymmetric warfare dilemma faced by the United States and Russia. This phenomenon reminds us that there is a fundamental shift in the mode of naval operations, especially for countries with weak geopolitical conditions that urgently need a solution. The equipment provided by China has the characteristics of stealth design, powerful firepower and electronic equipment, and multifunctional capabilities, which can meet the challenges of future naval operations. However, the applicability and practical application of equipment are two different issues, and the current dilemma facing the United States and Russia is that the ship is difficult to turn around, unable to respond in time to small but critical changes on the battlefield, and can only use the means of the previous era to deal with the threat of the next era.
