In 2023, a total of 2,968 hydrogen fuel cell passenger vehicles were sold, with an annual growth rate of 10%, followed by the Toyota Mirai with a 92% market share and the Hyundai Nexo with 8%. From 2012 to FY2023, a total of 17,940 hydrogen-fueled passenger cars were sold in the U.S. market.
In the post-internal combustion engine generation, the competition of new energy passenger vehicles currently seems to be dominated by EVs, with more than 1,189,000 EVs sold in 2023 and 2,968 hydrogen fuel cell vehicles sold in 2023. If we count the cumulative sales of hydrogen fuel vehicles since 2012, it is less than 18,000 units, and it can be said that EV pure electric vehicles dominate the new energy passenger car market.
According to InsideEVS, there are only 55 hydrogen refueling stations in California (almost all of which are sold in California), and 16 hydrogen refueling stations under construction, planning, and awaiting licenses. Of course, there are many other factors that affect the sales of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.
