After the acquisition of a huge amount of money by an Indian consortium, it wants to become the largest iPhone OEM, but it has encountered difficulties!
In an effort to propel India to the forefront of smartphone production and exports, Modi has thrown out a number of "public safety initiatives" to stimulate domestic manufacturing. Among these companies, the Tata Group is an Indian consortium that plays a pivotal role in the production of iPhones in India. For this reason, they even paid a lot of money to buy a production plant in India.
The Tata Group has publicly announced that it wants to become India's first domestically produced iPhone manufacturer and become India's largest contract manufacturer.
Because of this, many analysts believe that Foxconn, which continues to expand the size of the Indian market, may be affected. As a result, Foxconn has rapidly expanded its production capacity and has no intention of allowing Tata to take over their share of the iPhone market. However, in the case of tension between the two sides, the Indian consortium is "stuck".
According to public information, Indian giant Tata is currently in in-depth negotiations with Taiwanese company Jishuo on the iPhone assembly plant in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, India. The reason for this partnership is that Tata lacks more experience in producing iPhones, and the only existing assets are Wistron, which was acquired. Against this backdrop, it will not be easy for Tata to become India's largest Apple contractor.
From this point of view, local Indian companies cannot build a complete chain from scratch, and can only look for external partners. At this stage, "Make in India" still has a long way to go if it wants to really take the say in making iPhones from Chinese manufacturers.
At least Modi believes that putting local Indian companies at the heart of iPhone production is unlikely to be achieved in the short term.
However, that doesn't mean that iPhones made in India can't have an impact on us. There is also an important player in this that cannot be ignored, Foxconn.
As we all know, Foxconn has always been a major producer of Apple phones. In 2019, China had 99% of iPhone products, thanks to Foxconn's production capacity in the mainland market. But over time, that number has slowly changed, with India producing 13% of iPhones last year. At the same time, Foxconn, as a major player, also continues to increase its investment in the Indian market.
There is information that Foxconn is secretly expanding its staff dormitories in India. Among them, 13 staff dormitories are under construction, which can accommodate 37,000 people. In China, only Shenzhen and Zhengzhou have this ability. At this point, it's easy to see that Foxconn wants to replicate this scale and make India a production base for Apple's mobile phones. Although Foxconn is a Taiwanese company, it has brought its own ** chain, technology, and market to India, which is also for the sake of making iPhones in India.
In this way, the production capacity of the iPhone will be compressed, which will also affect the domestic foundry enterprises.
It's not hard to understand why some people think that Foxconn is India's biggest contributor to the fight for the right to speak for the iPhone production. What do you think about this? Please leave a comment, like, share here!
