893 Ryotei , which is a bit far from the street, is located in a historic preservation building.
An aluminium glass curtain wall and four large, evenly spaced structural shear wall columns define the interior of the space, which has a predominantly open floor plan.
Depending on the needs of the owners, they want a "yakuza" – a gangster awkward feel.
The designer drew inspiration from a scene from Martin Scorsese's film Goodfellas, in which the protagonist walks with his girlfriend through a long waiting line down a flight of stairs to the basement entrance; They walked through some underground scenes and appeared in the middle of the restaurant.
Therefore, the designers focused the design on maintaining the "underground" edge, while also being an elegant oasis of the night.
The 893 Ryotei has a one-way mirror glass front and a small neon sign on a piece of rough wood.
The glass is covered in graffiti, and the entrance is inconspicuous, and inside is an abstract interpretation of gangster tattoos.
It's as if the tattoo is lifted from the ** in different layers, basically squeezing upwards. This upward movement results in a colored horizontal surface with a textured black vertical surface.
Black icy steel walls create a bar-kitchen vertical squeeze feel, and two rectangular green marble horizontal rings mark the bar and restaurant areas.
A row of blue velvet surrounds the perimeter seating height, forming a bench seat.
Another perimeter line of green oak forms handrails and service stations.
There is a round light green marble table in the corner for special guests and after-work games and play.
The ceiling extends upwards from the windows, changing from simple black painted drywall to perforated acoustic seamless drywall.
Two works of art placed by the designer, "Neon Slice Kimono" and "Stacked Hot Rings", are placed in the designed positions to compose and compliment the atmosphere.
