The Princess of Wales will undoubtedly be surrounded by her closest people today as she celebrates a special occasion – her 42nd birthday.
Over the years, Prince William has prepared many special gifts for her, and there is no doubt that her three children – Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louise – will also do everything in their power to make the day even more memorable. In September 2008, when rumors began circulating that William was ready to propose, it was officially announced that he would be joining the RAF – a decision that took his family and girlfriend by surprise.
Having just completed his assignments in various divisions of the armed forces, William had two options - to return to the Household Cavalry or withdraw from the unit and begin his royal duties. For William, a career path in the RAF would give him more time and freedom before embarking on a full-time royal journey, allowing him to live an independent life that neither his grandmother nor father had. But for Kate, this is clearly a step backwards, as everyone expects her to marry the prince and start her royal life.
