In depth analysis of the Oppo Find X7 Ultra, dual periscope Hasselblad Master mode, goodbye camera

Over time, smartphone makers have touted quad cameras, most of which are just to make up the numbers, often including a regular fourth camera — usually for macro shots, or a depth sensor if not a monochrome filter.

However, now that we've been lucky enough to see the real four "main" cameras on some flagship phones, brands need to be more creative about differentiating themselves.

A true "quad lens".

OPPO decided to equip the Find X7 Ultra with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip not only one, but two thousand-yuan periscope telephoto cameras, achieving a leap from the previous generation of triple camera systems.

The Find X7 Ultra's "Hypertone Camera System" uses the same 50-megapixel resolution across all four rear Hasselblad cameras, thanks to a larger sensor relative to the competition. The main camera is equipped with Sony's second-generation 1-inch sensor LYT-900, which is more efficient in terms of power consumption and thermal performance.

This camera is also equipped with an F 18 Aperture, optical image stabilization (OISMM focal length and lens reflection reduced by 50%) The ultra-wide-angle camera uses a 1 195-inch Sony LYT-600 sensor with f 20 aperture, one of the fastest in its class. The camera has a 14mm-equivalent focal length and a 4cm focusing distance.

Then, what we are left with are two thousand-dollar periscope telephoto cameras. The first is a 3x optical zoom with a 1 1The 56-inch Sony IMX980 sensor is said to be "about three times larger" than the competitor's sensor.

You'll also get f 26 apertures, as well as a "prism OISMM focal length and a focusing distance of 25cm, perfect for portrait and product shooting." Then there is a periscope with a 6x optical zoom, equipped with 1 251-inch Sony IMX858 sensor with F 43 apertures, 135mm focal length, 35cm focusing distance, and Prism OIS. Oppo says that with AI-enhanced zoom, the Find X7 Ultra has a fairly rich zoom range, from 14mm to 270mm.

The era of computational photography

OPPO also claims to have made some major breakthroughs in the field of mobile photography. Most notably, it has finally introduced the "Hypertone Image Engine", which is said to improve the computational photography of HDR while avoiding over-sharpening and over-sharpening.

It is reported that this technology has been developed for two years and has received input from professional photographers and color experts. As one spokesperson put it: "It is the process of merging objective quality with subjective emotion." "Even better, the Hypertone graphics engine will eventually launch some existing OPPO devices, specifically the Find N and Reno series, depending on compatibility.

Other improvements include improved quality consistency across the zoom range, especially in low-light environments, and more realistic portrait shots thanks to the new Hasselblad Portrait Mode. For the latter, OPPO boldly promises to deliver "cinematic bokeh with foreground and background depth", accurate to a single hair, plus minimal shutter lag as an added bonus.

Hasselblad Master Mode

OPPO has also introduced a new "Hasselblad Master Mode", which is based on the characteristics of the Hasselblad X2D 100C medium format mirrorless camera. You can adjust saturation, contrast, sharpness, and vignetting controls to create your favorite style, while also adjusting shooting features like manual ISO, shutter speed, EV, focus, and white balance.

This master mode also offers "RAW MAX" capture – to be updated by OTA – with support for 13 stops of dynamic range and 16-bit color depth for each 50-megapixel still image.

Flagship configuration

The Find X7 Ultra is available in three colour options: "Ocean Blue", "Sepia Brown" and "Tailored Black", all of which are equipped with vegetable-leather overlays (the black version comes with decorative stitching). Despite the extra periscope camera, a generous 5000mAh battery, and support for wireless charging (50W to charge in 60 minutes; The 100W Supervooc wired charge takes twice as long), but this device is actually about the same weight and thickness as the Find X6 Pro.

This is thanks to a thinner wireless charging coil, thinner vegetable-based leather, and an improved logic board stackup design. OPPO also uses a "single-sided magnet" to make the entire rear camera module tightly stacked to avoid interference between the three OIS parts.

The new phone also comes with OPPO's brightest ever QHD (3168 x 1440) panel with up to 1600 nits of brightness outdoors and 4500 nits of local peak brightness for HDR purposes.

This piece of 6The 82-inch AMOLED panel supports a regular 120Hz refresh rate and ultra-low touch latency, while also supporting "rain touch" for wet hands (with IP68 dust and water resistance ratings).

While the three-segment slider is still around, it's been redesigned as a "VIP slider" that can be used to quickly switch between notification modes or cut off access to the camera, location, and microphone for ultimate privacy.

Conclusion

The Oppo Find X7 Ultra presents users with an impressive flagship phone with its excellent photography system, thin and light design, and stunning display. Surprisingly, OPPO doesn't currently have plans to launch the Find X7 Ultra outside of China, with the model starting at 5999 yuan with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage and going up to 6999 yuan with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage.

All three options can be booked ahead of retail availability on January 12. In addition, OPPO will launch a special edition with satellite calling support at the end of March, but there is no mention of **. We'll have to wait and see.
