On December 5, 2023, Professor Yang Honglin of Wuhan Textile University hurried to Yunyang District, ** City, and made a special report on "On the Historical Logic of Yunyang's "Wu Zixu Weir" and the World Irrigation Project Heritage Value" at the Water Conservancy Bureau.

It turned out that when Professor Yang Honglin, who was over the age of old, learned that China would add 4 more world irrigation engineering heritage sites in 2023, he couldn't help but think of "Wu Zixu Weir". This ancient weir that has been irrigating 10,000 acres of fertile land for more than 2,000 years and benefiting generations of people is enough to shine in the annals of the world's irrigation engineering with its historical status and outstanding contributions. Time was running out, he immediately collected and sorted out the information, and through a month of hard fighting, he wrote 1More than 30,000 words of research report on "Wu Zixuyan".
"Seize the day" is a portrayal of Yang Honglin for decades.
Educated youths and peasant writers" ushered in the "spring of learning".
Yang Honglin laughed and said that he was a peer of the Republic, born in November 1950 in an intellectual family in Chengguan Town, Yunxi County, he was influenced by the middle school Chinese teacher, and loved reading and writing since he was a child, and recited a large number of poems and songs. In the 60s of the 20th century, he experienced the career of "going to the mountains and going to the countryside" as a farmer, porter, cowherd, and served as a "village official" for 5 years, and the captain of the literary and artistic propaganda team......During the day, he repaired the earth, and at night, he read and wrote at night, and created a large number of literary and artistic works that eulogized the natural landscape, the old folks and the working life.
From the age of 17 to the age of 27, Yang Honglin ate, lived and worked with the peasants, did all the farm work, and suffered all the hardships, so he formed a deep relationship with the people. "I grew up by the Han River with the fragrance of books, and the image of a hardworking and simple laborer in the Qinba Mountains is the most portrayed in my works," he says. In 1977, the college entrance examination was resumed, and the county cultural department recommended Yang Honglin to take the college entrance examination as an "educated youth and peasant amateur writer with outstanding contributions", and was successfully admitted to the Chinese language and literature major of the Yunyang Branch of Central China Normal University, ushering in the first spring of his life.
In order to make up for the 10 years of delay, Yang Honglin cherished his time like gold and worked tirelessly, carrying a kerosene lamp in the classroom and a flashlight in the quilt to read group books at night, soaking in the stacks of books day after day, and the process of reading, copying, and reciting consolidated his literary skills and research foundation. After graduating from university, he stayed on to teach, hoping to engage in teaching literature in the Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties, and was arranged to engage in ideological and political work. Unable to let go of his beloved literary dream, he continued his studies at Central China Normal University and the Chinese Department of Hubei University.
A few years later, he was already the head of the Propaganda Department of the Party Committee of Wuhan University, and he was admitted to Wuhan University for a master's degree in the basic principles of Marxism, under the supervision of Professor Liu Xingyan. After the "eight-year Anti-Japanese War" in Luojia Mountain, he became familiar with the complete works of Marx and Engels, the complete works of Lenin, ancient Chinese philosophy, Western philosophy and other books, and started Yang Honglin's journey to climb the peak of philosophy and social sciences.
Won two national projects in a row to seize the "spring of the cause".
During his studies at Wuhan University, Yang Honglin was seconded by the Provincial Working Committee for Colleges and Universities for more than two years. "Theory and practice have improved my ability like nuclear fusion, and I have cherished the opportunity to devote myself to philosophical research," Yang Honglin said.
In 1997, Zhang Moying, deputy secretary of the Provincial Department of Education and former secretary of the Party Committee of Wuhan Textile Institute, mediated and strived for, and Yang Honglin taught at the University of Textile and Textiles. "At that time, the school's liberal arts strength was weak, which can be described as 'struggling'." He sighed, "textile colleges should not only talk about fibers, talk about machinery, but also talk about culture, talk about aesthetics, I suggest that the school establish a liberal arts major." In 1999, the Department of Social Sciences was established, and the first major of advertising was established, and he proposed to construct a "Tang Sancai education model" with humanities and social sciences as the main color, engineering and art as the background, and educational innovation as the bright color, and successively opened majors such as radio and television journalism, law and educational technology.
After the establishment of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences in 2003, Yang Honglin served as the dean. He made drastic efforts to strengthen the teaching staff and the construction of disciplines. The introduction of talents "do not smoke a cigarette, do not drink a sip of wine, do not charge a penny" of the "three noes" and the requirements of the doctorate of teachers, so that the level of teachers of the college can be rapidly improved. In 2001, he won the school's first national social science project, and the final monograph "General Theory of Yang Xianzhen's Philosophical Thought" was praised by "Guangming**" as "China's first comprehensive, in-depth and systematic study of Yang Xianzhen's philosophical thoughts". In 2009, Yang Honglin scored two goals and was once again approved as a national social science ** project, ushering in the second spring of his life. This year, he was nearly 60 years old.
In the face of young teachers, Yang Honglin always teaches what he has learned without reservation, he likes to compare with the villagers when he was a young man, and he is the leader of pulling the fiber rope, shouting to the teachers "follow me"!
Second-level professors, experts enjoying special allowances, national outstanding teachers, national outstanding ideological and political educators in colleges and universities, and young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions in Hubei Province ......Behind the honor is hard work and dedication.
Decades of infatuation have not changed, and he has devoted himself to painting the "spring of his hometown".
In 2015, Professor Yang Honglin retired, and he had more time to think about how to realize the "frost leaves red in February" in life. In addition to being hired as an expert for the evaluation of the results of the national social science project and a school teaching supervisor, he also devoted himself to the construction and development of the Hanshui inundation area of the South-to-North Water Diversion, which made him busier than before.
I am the son of Hanshui, and I am grateful for this landscape that raised me", Yang Honglin said, when he was a student, he began to study Hanshui culture, from the Hanshui ape cave site to the Xichuan dinosaur egg fossil site, from the Qinglongquan site to the Qujialing cultural site, from the famous Taoist mountain Wudang Mountain to the Buddhist holy land Yuquan Temple, from the Zhongxiang Ming Mausoleum to the Dangyang Guan Emperor Mausoleum, from Xiangyang Gulongzhong to Nanyang Han painting brick ......Everywhere he left his figure and footprints of investigation.
The bronze sword of the Warring States period preserved in the Yunxi County Museum was discovered when I led the villagers to build terraces when I was an educated youth", Yang Honglin seemed very excited when talking about his hometown, "There are many historical and cultural areas in the Hanshui Basin that need to be excavated and protected. ”
In the early 90s of the 20th century, when Wudang Mountain was declared a world cultural heritage, he wrote a number of academic **, put forward a series of innovative academic views, and solved many academic problems, such as tracing the political and religious reasons for Ming Chengzu's major repair of Wudang Mountain, explaining the origin of Chen Jun's ancestor and Wudang Taoist thought, and systematically demonstrating Zhang Sanfeng's Neidan thought and Taijiquan theory.
From Wudang Mountain's "World Heritage Application" to Yang Xianzhen's philosophical and ideological research, from being invited to guide the construction of "Tianhe Qixi Culture" in Yunxi County, to using his pen to fight against erroneous remarks and composing praises for heroes during the epidemic, Yang Honglin's every journey reflects the great love of a humanities and social science scholar who chooses the needs of the country and the people as a value choice and selfless dedication.
Yang Honglin, who is in his old age, loves the mountains and rivers of his hometown more passionately, is more grateful to the old villagers who guide life, and is more devoted to the construction of the submerged area of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project. Now, "Wu Zixuyan" declared the world irrigation engineering heritage, Danjiangkou cultural tourism project research and planning occupy most of his time, "burning paste in the study, making plans to rejuvenate the mountain township" has become a new journey in his life. He opened the third spring of his life "in waiting".
Retirement is not the terminal for intellectuals to shine, as long as their destiny is linked to the country, the nation and the people, such a life in old age will be more fulfilling and worthwhile", Professor Yang Honglin is full of pride.
