Ski mountaineering is a winter mountain outdoor sport based on snow mountain climbing and supplemented by skiing, which combines the characteristics of alpine exploration and skiing, and requires participants to have super physical fitness and superb snow mountain climbing and skiing skills. In July 2021, the 138th Session of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) voted to approve ski mountaineering as an official sport for the 2026 Winter Olympics. The 14th National Winter Games set up a ski mountaineering event for the first time, and the event was benchmarked against the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, with a total of three gold medals in ski mountaineering men's and women's sprint and mixed relay, and 16 teams from all over the country participated in this competition.
