A few days ago, Meizu officially announced a major strategic adjustment, which will completely stop the development of smart phones and instead fully invest in the research and development of a new generation of AI devices.
According to Meizu, as the mobile phone market enters a bottleneck period of innovation, relying solely on the upgrade of hardware and parameters can no longer meet the experience of the next era, and the industry urgently needs a new development direction. Meizu's future strategy is to build AI device products, reconstruct the Flyme system, and build an AI ecosystem.
According to the relevant plan, Meizu will first update the mobile phone operating system for AI this year, and Meizu's first AI device hardware product will also be released within this year. At the same time, considering the transition of hardware between the two eras, during the transformation of Meizu All in AI, the experience and service of the original smartphone users will not be affected in any way. The after-sales service of Meizu mobile phone products on sale will also operate normally.
It is worth mentioning that Meizu is not the only mobile phone brand that chooses to switch to "AI", Honor, OPPO, vivo and other manufacturers are successively launching smart terminals with big data training models, but they are still dominated by mobile phones and have not yet launched subversive devices. However, relevant people from Meizu said that the idea of continuing to use mobile phones is not good for AI equipment.
In addition to announcing its transformation into AI, Meizu also announced its entry into the field of car manufacturing at a press conference at the end of last year, and unveiled and demonstrated an open platform called "Unbounded Intelligent Mobility" at the scene. According to Meizu's description, this platform can provide car companies with the Flyme Auto intelligent cockpit operating system, and car companies can intervene in the relevant modular capabilities according to their own needs, which can accelerate the intelligent cockpit experience of car companies on the premise of reducing costs and increasing efficiency.
Earlier, Meizu also announced that it would cooperate with Geely Automobile to build its first model, the Meizu Dreamcar MX, relying on its own intelligent ecology and Geely's manufacturing capabilities.
It is reported that this plan will be launched in the first quarter of this year, and the specific mass production and launch time is unknown. At present, the market does not seem to have much expectation for Meizu to build a car, because this plan is more like testing the waters, which belongs to the OEM model of Geely Automobile's products, rather than the re-development of Xiaomi's car.
However, this cautious tactic actually has advantages and disadvantages, customized OEM cars can test the market, if the response is good, the follow-up does not rule out that Meizu will launch a higher degree of self-developed car products. If it can't be sold, it can also be used as a display item for its own smart ecology for other car companies. As for whether Meizu's related car business will continue to advance normally after Meizu's comprehensive transformation into AI, we will continue to pay attention.
