At the 2022 World Championships in Budapest, Pan Zhanle swam a good time of 47.65 seconds in the semifinals of the 100-meter freestyle, tying the national record held by Ning Zetao. During his studies at SJTU, Zhang Zhizhen also struggled to compete in tennis, winning his first Challenger title in Jinan in 2019, setting the record for the highest singles ranking of a Chinese mainland male player in the same year, and becoming the first Chinese mainland player to reach the Wimbledon men's singles main draw since the Open era in 2021.
