South Korean chip giants monopolize the global market again, and domestic storage faces new challenges?

In the past, Korean companies dominated the memory sector. Even now, Samsung still has a market share of more than 30%, and SK hynix has a market share of nearly 20%, accounting for the vast majority of memory devices.

Fortunately, localized storage in the traditional memory space is evolving. According to relevant information, the technical gap between domestic chips and Samsung, SK hynix and other large manufacturers has narrowed to about two years, and with the acceleration of chip upgrading, domestic chips have also gained a considerable market share.

But for now, the situation is not optimistic, and home storage devices are likely to be phased out.

Driven by the wave of artificial intelligence, high-bandwidth memory (HBM) has become an important part of the development of the memory industry. South Korean chip giants Samsung and SK Hynix have both received large orders from Nvidia. In this context, SK Hynix's activities in the HBM field have improved significantly: sales of its HBM3 wafers have increased by more than five times compared to the same period last year, and the overall performance shows a good trend.

In particular, South Korea** has decided to invest more in HBM to make it a national strategic technology and provide tax incentives for companies such as Samsung.

Clearly, the South Korean giant is once again dominating the global HBM market and does not want other manufacturers to get a head start. Even Micron, which has a market share of less than 10%, has a hard time competing with South Korean companies, let alone domestic chips, which have almost nothing to do in the HBM space. So, are we really going to be squeezed out of the market?

Now, it seems, is about to become obsolete. When HBM came along, we didn't take the chance. At least so far, no domestic memory chip manufacturer has launched HBM chips, so we have lost the advantage against them. But with the rise of the AI market and the emergence of HBM, we will definitely be able to seize this opportunity and occupy the HBM market.

We also play a core role in the entire ** chain of HBM, which mainly includes five parts: materials, chip design, and chip manufacturing. These include HBM's pioneer materials, self-developed GMC materials, etc.

In other words, although we are not very competitive in HBM, we can continue to expand HBM even if we do not have a Chinese company. Optimistically, Chinese manufacturers can still benefit greatly from the huge dividends.

However, when it comes to HBM chips, we are inferior to large foreign companies. If we want to be more profitable in this area, we will have to produce HBM chips, competing with foreign giants.

If we fall behind, what do you think will happen to the storage space? Please comment, like and share here!
