In the era when the Blue Mountains were kings, there was a saying on the Internet: "The Blue Mountain coffee you can buy in China has a 99% probability of being fake!" Doesn't that sound incredible? So why is there such a saying? Today's Front Street will take you to explore the truth of the problem, but before that, let's briefly review what Blue Mountain Coffee is
What is Blue Mountain Coffee?
Blue Mountain coffee is the coffee from the Blue Mountains The Blue Mountains are located in the eastern part of Jamaica, an island country in the Caribbean Sea. The reason why it is named the Blue Mountains has a lot to do with the sea water that surrounds the mountain!
On a clear day, the sun shines on the surface of the sea, and because the sea refracts light, the light is refracted and hits the mountain. Then, because the refracted object is made by seawater, the refracted light has the blue glow of the blue water, and the whole looks like a blue mountain. Thus, the Blue Mountains got their name!
At the beginning of the 18th century, the cultivation of coffee in Jamaica began! Through the careful care of the coffee farmers and the blessing of the excellent climate of the island, the final harvest of coffee beans is of excellent quality, with a rich aroma and mellow taste! After its launch, it was a more sought-after existence, especially for the Japanese who were deeply influenced by Mandheling: "Eh! The taste is simply amazing. ”
But in the late 60s, the whole island of Jamaica was violently hit by hurricanes (this time it was finally not leaf rust!). Whether it is coffee or other crops, all of them have been "poisoned" and have suffered heavy losses. Almost all of Jamaica's coffee estates could not withstand the blow of the hurricane, and the coffee industry collapsed and fell apart.
But coincidentally, this period happened to be in Japan's first era, when Japan's economy took off and its consumption power was directly full. As a result, several Japanese ** companies teamed up to provide huge loans to several well-known estates in the Blue Mountains in exchange for shares, and they also obtained the right of first refusal!
But this is not enough, in order to thank Japanese companies for their timely intervention, Jamaica** signed a contract with Japan in 1972, and in the next 30 years, Jamaica will produce 9 percent of its annual coffee to Japan, and the remaining 1 percent will be given to countries outside Japan. Blue Mountain coffee, which is already scarce in production, is exported in an extremely pitiful way!
As a result, the Japanese, who have a quota of 9 percent of Blue Mountain coffee, praised, promoted, and Amway, which directly set off a "Blue Mountain craze". People in neighboring countries have begun to pursue Blue Mountain coffee, the scarce quantity coupled with successful marketing, a sip seems to be able to become a dragon and phoenix among people, and the ** of Blue Mountain coffee has also reached the sky. And it was at this time that the title of Emperor of Blue Mountain Coffee was obtained!
Although it has become very expensive, it cannot withstand the large number of people, so the amount of Blue Mountain coffee that can be imported into China at that time was very scarce, and the coffee culture was not widespread in China at that time. Therefore, some merchants have used the technique of blending coffee beans, using beans from the most suitable producing areas such as Mandheling and Brazil to blend to imitate the taste and texture of Blue Mountain coffee!
Then these merchants will give these blended beans the name of the Blue Mountains that are easy to misunderstand, and call them Blue Mountain Flavored Coffee Beans! Although it tastes far from the real Blue Mountain, people don't say that it is the Blue Mountain. Therefore, there is the opening sentence: The Blue Mountains you can drink in China are almost all fake!
But this statement was only true 08 years ago! By 2008, the world was in an economic crisis, including Jamaica! Jamaica needed to sell Blue Mountain coffee to more countries, just as its contract with Japan had expired.
As a result, the Japanese can no longer monopolize Blue Mountain coffee, Blue Mountain coffee can be sold to more countries, and people no longer have to rely on the "Blue Mountain flavor" to guess the true taste of Blue Mountain coffee. Because, Blue Mountain coffee is no longer rare, it is no longer the most expensive one, and now it is not too easy to drink a cup of Blue Mountain coffee!
