In 1955, Teng Haiqing was awarded the rank of lieutenant general, becoming one of China's first 177 founding generals. His military career is legendary.
Born into a farming family in Jinzhai County, Anhui Province, Teng Haiqing joined the guerrillas as a young man and later joined the Red Army. He served as the commander of the fifth company in the Red 32 Corps, and despite many difficulties on the battlefield, he never flinched.
One of the big problems was that he couldn't ride a horse, so he always wanted to find an opportunity to learn. In the Battle of Huangguang, he captured two war horses, which were supposed to be surrendered, but he wanted to try riding them, so he left them.
However, when he was about to practice horseback riding, he ran into the division commander Ni Zhiliang, and as a result, the horse was confiscated and he was transferred to the platoon commander of the communications team. Although Teng Haiqing was worried about this, he was very happy when he learned about his new identity.
So, why is he so happy?
Ni Zhiliang's communications team consisted of two platoons, they lost the war, and soon they would be assigned to other units as battalion commanders and other positions. These personnel are all at the battalion and company level.
Ni Zhiliang explained that his position was equivalent to that of deputy regiment commander, and although it was ostensibly a demotion, it was actually a promotion. His honor is also earned in life and death.
In 1932, the Red Army suffered several defeats, and Teng Haiqing was seriously wounded in a short battle. In order to get rid of the encirclement of the Kuomintang as soon as possible, the Fourth Front of the Red Army left Teng Haiqing.
The accident left him blind in his left eye, injured in his right eye and shot in his right arm. Although he did not want to leave the troops, he had to be on crutches and his eyesight was not good, but he still kept up with the troops.
Teng Haiqing fought valiantly on the battlefield, and in 1933, while participating in the anti-six-way siege, he was shot in the throat, injuring not only his throat and esophagus, but also his nerves. However, Teng Haiqing recovered quickly and soon returned to the battlefield.
During the Red Army, he served as political commissar of the Komsomol. During the Anti-Japanese War, he participated in ten campaigns, from commander to brigade commander, and made great contributions to the country.
During the War of Liberation, he served as a division commander, regiment commander, army commander and other positions, participated in the famous Menglianggu and Huaihai battles, and made great contributions to the founding of New China.
In 1955, Teng Haiqing was awarded the rank of lieutenant general. During his tenure, he served as the deputy commander of the Beijing Military Region and the commander of the Inner Mongolia Military Region, actively excavating and collating a large amount of intelligence, accurately targeting the security risks of the northern border, and making great contributions to the defense of China's territorial integrity.
In 1997, Teng Haiqing passed away in Beijing.
Teng Haiqing, a venerable national hero, has made great contributions to China's development with his indomitable spirit and selfless dedication. His bravery and his spirit of sacrifice are examples for us to learn from.
Let us learn from Teng Haiqing, create more value for our motherland, and contribute to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
