According to the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, in the process of renovating old communities last year, various localities focused on making up for the shortcomings of old communities in terms of facilities and services, and concentrated on solving a number of problems that have plagued residents' lives for a long time. Adhere to the principle of "what can't be changed, what is lacking to make up", do not engage in large-scale demolition and construction, carefully design and use idle houses, idle corner land, etc., to carry out suitable transformation for the elderly and children, and effectively improve the living conditions and living environment of residents.

Liu Lifeng, Deputy Director of the Department of Urban Construction of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development: In 2024, we will focus on eliminating potential safety hazards in old communities, comprehensively improving the living environment, facilities and service functions of old communities, and then accelerating the solution of a number of people's "urgent, difficult and longing" problems, so that people can live with peace of mind.

According to reports, this year, all localities will establish a working mechanism of "physical examination first, and then transformation", focusing on updating and transforming aging pipelines such as drainage and gas with potential safety hazards. At the same time, it will also actively explore the conversion of existing houses, the reuse of idle land, etc., with the construction of old-age care, childcare, meal assistance and other "one old and one small" service facilities, and vigorously promote the installation of elevators in buildings with conditions. In addition, all localities will also upgrade hardware facilities at the same time, and simultaneously improve community governance capabilities, so as to achieve "one-time transformation and long-term maintenance".
