BDx will acquire a portfolio of data centers from Indosat in Indonesia

January 9, 2024 - BDX, an Asia-Pacific data center company, will acquire Indosat's data center portfolio in Indonesia.

BDX Indonesia, a joint venture between Indosat, BDX Data Centers and Lintasarta, announced this week that BDX Indonesia, a joint venture consisting of Indosat, BDX Data Centers and Lintasarta, has agreed to acquire a portfolio of neutral colocation and edge sites, including Jakarta, Surabaya, Batam, Medan (Medan), Makassar, Bandung and Semarang, including 10 stations connected to six domestic and five international submarine cables.

Upon completion of the transaction, BDX Indonesia will have a total of more than 150MW of IT capacity in Indonesia, spread across ten operational neutral colocation facilities;A new 15MW facility under construction near Jakarta is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2024;A 100MW hyperscale campus in East Jakarta;and neutral edge sites located on the main islands of Indonesia.

The value of the deal is IDR 262.5 billion (about 1.).$6.8 billion). Three banks in Indonesia – BCA Bank, Bank Permata and Bank Bukopin – will provide loans to BDX Indonesia.

Indosat is an Indonesian telecommunications company co-owned by Qatari telecommunications company Ooredoo and Hong Kong-based investment firm Ck Hutchinson. According to the news**, the deal is structured as a sale-leaseback, which means that Indosat will likely remain a customer of these sites for the foreseeable future.

BDX is a company backed by i Squared Capital that operates data centers in Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, and Singapore. It first formed a data center joint venture with Indosat Ooredoo and Lintasarta in May 2022.

BDX Indonesia has expanded and upgraded its four data centers in Jakarta and West Java, which were transferred in 2022, and will expand and upgrade its current portfolio to meet BDX's operating standards.

Indosat said most of the sites have "significant expansion potential" on existing buildings and adjacent land, while Batam's site could be developed to meet spillover demand from Singapore.
