In addition to Children's Day, birthdays are the most anticipated days for children. The sense of ritual of the birthday is also very important for the development of children. The "Children's Dreams Come True" project is a heart-warming project established by the Department of Social Work to help hospitalized children realize their wishes, create happy experiences, and help children and parents in need to obtain a better medical experience.
On January 8, the Social Work Department of the Capital Institute of Pediatrics, together with the Department of Hematology and the Beijing Concentric Circle**, held a birthday party for a child in the ward, which is also the first birthday party in 2024.
Xiao Xuan (pseudonym), the protagonist of this birthday party, has been living in the ward for more than ten days, and is usually quiet in the ward, but due to the long hospital stay, his mood is easily affected. Last week, because of poor communication with his mother, Xiao Xuan's emotions exploded, and the medical staff comforted the child while comforting the mother. As the child is about to celebrate his 11th birthday, the medical social worker and the department learned more about the situation, collected the child's interests and hobbies, and planned to hold a birthday party for Xiaoxuan.
After assessing the children's physical condition and implementation conditions, everyone took action to prepare materials, purchase gifts, decorate the ward, and mobilize the children in the same ward to participate in the shortest possible time. Everyone put on small colored hats and small colored glasses, and sang birthday songs for Xiao Xuan together. The atmosphere was lively and warm. Xiao Xuan received his favorite Lego toys, and the social work department also prepared gifts for other children. Finally, Xiao Xuan bowed excitedly to everyone and said, "Thank you!."”
Although Xiao Xuan's 11th birthday was spent in the ward, he said that he was very happy and liked it very much. Medical social workers, medical staff and social volunteers hope to continue to create a warm and harmonious diagnosis and treatment environment for children, hold a variety of humanistic activities, and accompany children to succeed.
