This is the Shanghai home of a young couple, who live alone on weekdays, and they hope to inject a sense of vitality into their new home through design, so that the overall space seems more simple and practical.
Design First Impressions: The Challenges of an Old House.
When they first arrived on site, the designer was fascinated by the old exterior of the house. After learning about it, I learned that it has been more than 20 years since the last renovation. Through this renovation, the homeowner hopes to solve a series of problems in the details of the house, including the leakage and heat insulation of the roof, the design of no dead corners and easy care, more storage space, and solve the problems of space lighting and western sun.
Renovation of the first floor: more space, higher utilization.
The original floor plan shows that this 51The actual usable area of the two-storey suite of 55 is 83. The problems mainly focus on the limited area of the public area, insufficient lighting, too much space occupied by stairs, and inconvenient access to toilets.
In the remodeling, the designers took the following key points:
1. Advance horizontally to the master bedroom and enlarge the public area space.
2. Move the staircase to the window sill with low utilization rate, and adopt the staircase cabinet + card seat design to alleviate the problem of restaurant area tension.
3. Re-plan the layout of the kitchen and bathroom to improve the utilization rate.
4. The bathroom and kitchen borrow from each other, which increases the depth of the operating table.
Two-layer planning: simple and efficient, to meet the needs of multi-function.
The public area is limited, and the living room and dining room are designed with the staircase to maximize the release of activity space.
The original staircase position occupies a limited public area, and by moving to the window sill, the combination of staircase cabinet and card seat design solves the bottleneck of the dining room space and improves the storage capacity of the first floor.
As you can see in the picture, both the booth and the stair treads have hidden storage spaces.
The bedroom on the first floor adopts Changhong glass double doors, which bring in balcony light to improve daylighting while maintaining privacy in the bedroom.
By taking advantage of the width of the master bedroom, the dining room has added a sideboard.
West-facing windows are the only place to daylight in the public areas, with louvers built into the window hollows to regulate light and slow down the sunset at dusk.
Directly above the restaurant is the light suspension + hollow design of the staircase, which reduces the volume and reduces the sense of crampedness.
The balcony of the master bedroom originally had a sun room, and the designer extended the window frame on the second floor to create an interspersed structural effect.
The master bedroom is optimally lit and floods every corner with sunlight. The meeting function is designed, and the balcony is equipped with a booth sofa for friends to use.
The balcony storage cabinet is made of black, white and wood grain to meet the storage needs and add beauty.
Small wall lamps on the balcony are lit in the midst of the greenery.
The master bedroom looks out onto the living room, with beautiful double doors, which realizes the circulation of light and wind when it is opened, making the old room spacious and comfortable.
The entrance to the toilet is plug-in"Ghost Door"The design, simple and neat, does not take up space inside.
The entrance to the bathroom has been adjusted and part of the area facing the kitchen has been utilized.
Due to the limited space, the washbasin is designed in the form of a semi-thrown basin with a cream-colored artificial stone countertop.
The kitchen closes the entrance to the original bathroom to get more space for operation, and the overall cream color continues.
The segmented staircase is the highlight of the overall design, which solves the problems of narrow public area, lack of storage space and insufficient lighting.
The second half of the tread is made of prefabricated welded steel plates, which gives a feeling of floating lightness.
The hollow lines of the armrests have their own rhythm of light and shadow, and you can feel the changes of light when you walk through them.
The space on the second floor is designed like a suite, which is a small world of independence and rich functions.
The door of the second bedroom is customized, and the wallpaper pattern gives the space a romantic and retro meaning.
The second bedroom is located directly above the master bedroom, and the window has been changed from a fixed window to a small sliding window to improve ventilation.
There is a beam at the top, designed to be naturally hidden by an arc, and the wardrobe adopts a top-to-ceiling design to meet the owner's storage needs to the greatest extent.
The bedroom looks out onto the living room.
Off the bedroom is the living room area, which contains an office area, a storage room, and a cloakroom, which is small but functional.
The highest point in the middle is used as the main activity space, which can be used for office, reading, and meeting friends, and the side is mainly used for cloak storage.
In order to enhance the sense of depth of the space, the wardrobe door panel is designed as a mirror, which brightens the space through reflection, and is also a large full-length mirror.
The old house that used to be dim and old and inconvenient to live in has now become a warm and romantic small duplex, do you like this renovation?
