The bamboo building is a characteristic residence of the Dai people.
The Dai people mainly live in the Xishuangbanna region of Yunnan Province, with a population of about 1.15 million. Dai villages are mostly distributed in the Pingba area of the river valley surrounded by mountains, and mainly rely on planting rice, corn, rubber, fruits, vegetables and other crops for their livelihood.
The characteristics of Dai house building are to avoid cold and dampness, ventilation and coolness, and to resist the invasion of poisonous snakes and beasts.
The Xishuangbanna area is dominated by the Dai people, so it has the reputation of "the hometown of peacocks". The bamboo buildings inhabited by the Dai people here have a unique style. The bamboo buildings of the Dai nationality are mostly built of wood and bamboo, and some are as high as 3 floors. The whole bamboo building is supported by dozens of large bamboos, and then the bamboo is used as a fence, the roof is covered with thatch or tiles, and the house is divided into two rooms in front and back with bamboo fences, the front is an open hall, and the back is a bedroom. The bamboo building is surrounded by green trees, the environment is elegant, and the air is fresh and pleasant.
Dai men generally do not enter the door of Buddhist temples, and only women are fortunate enough to be allowed to go in to burn incense and worship the Buddha. The dress of Dai women is the most eye-catching in Xishuangbanna. They wear short and long skirts underneath, and jackets with round necks and narrow sleeves or tops with right sides, which look chic and graceful. This tube skirt can be wrapped around and covered by the legs, which is cool and comfortable. This kind of tube skirt walks, runs, sits, lies and moves freely, which not only shows the beauty of women's curves, but also facilitates the ever-changing styles and patterns of women's tube skirts, which fully shows the cultural characteristics of this nation.
With the development of tourism, the Dai bamboo buildings in the Xishuangbanna area have been opened to tourists for accommodation. The unique bamboo buildings are hidden in the green trees, giving people a feeling of "people are in the shade of the green trees, and the bamboo buildings are hidden in it", which is quite poetic and picturesque.
