Kazuo Inamori: Only those who carry out their beliefs from beginning to end have true courage

It is not enough to just "know" and have simple "knowledge", but also to have faith to raise "knowledge" to the level of "insight"; We must also be brave in carrying out the "knowledge" to the level of "courage" without fear of any difficulties and obstacles. —Kazuo Inamori Kazuku.

Strive to be based on "knowledge".Plus the courage to make yourself "courageous".

What are the qualifications required for an operator? Mr. Yasuoka, who is well versed in classical Chinese culture, uses the "three senses" of "knowledge", "insight" and "courage" to express it.

First of all, it is natural that the job must have the necessary "knowledge". But just having "knowledge" doesn't mean you're able to take on the role of a leader.

Leaders must have "insight". "Insight" does not refer to mere knowledge, but to the elevation of knowledge to the level of firm conviction such as "I must do this" and "I want to be like this."

In addition, because leaders must be at the forefront of the organization and lead the group, they must have the ability to command – that is, heroic courage, decisiveness, and execution.

If a leader does not possess these qualities, he or she will not be able to lead a group of many members. These qualities are collectively referred to as "courage."

No matter how brilliant the insight is, no matter how strong the conviction is, if we lack the courage to put our knowledge and conviction into action, we will not be able to lead the group forward.

Leaders should strive to add courage to the foundation of "knowledge" and make themselves "courageous".

We tend to use as leaders the so-called "smart debaters" who have the talent to think strategically, to have a skill, and to be eloquent.

For example, ** often promote those "talents" who have passed the national civil service first-level examination and are selected by thousands of people to administrative leaders.

Such competence may be necessary and sufficient qualifications to serve as an official, but when it comes to leading the entire group, such intelligence alone is not enough.

The leader of a group must have the courage to lead the group in the right direction in any situation.

However, courage alone is not enough to become a true leader. Having guts and courage is only a second-class qualification for a leader.

The most important of a leader's qualifications is to have a thoughtful and trustworthy character.

In a word, the leader must be a person of high character.

In other words, a leader should have a combination of ability, courage, and personality, but if you want to rank them first, "personality" comes first, "courage" comes second, and "ability" comes third.

2. Philosophy is very important in businessSpend your energies on learning and practicing philosophy

When it comes to driving a business as a manager, the most important thing is what kind of knowledge he has about management. In my opinion, philosophy is very important in management, and it is necessary to spend our efforts on learning and practicing philosophy.

In other words, if the president confronts the employees, he will just say, "Do the work!" Come on! You can't do this kind of attitude! "Just saying these dry things won't motivate employees to work together with you.

It's important to be clear about how exactly you, as an operator, are going to run your business.

First of all, "I want to do this kind of thing for this purpose, and for this reason, I want to run the business with this way of thinking." In other words, it is important to explain to employees the way they think about running a business.

If the president thinks like this and does such a thing, then I agree. I am very happy to work under the leadership of such a president, and I am willing to work with the president."

In other words, the president's ideas and policies must be approved and supported by the employees.

And to do that, philosophy is needed. However, even if you study philosophy and understand it in your head, you can't really grasp it.

I think that without encountering shock events, it is very difficult for people to really grasp philosophy under normal circumstances.

For example, when faced with a severe test such as corporate bankruptcy, it is easy to grasp what you have learned. In a rich, relaxed, stable and stable environment, you instill these things in his head, and he goes in in his left ear and out in his right ear.

You can't grasp it, you can't turn it into your own, and of course you won't use it. Philosophy is not flesh and blood in the president, and no matter what the president says, the employees will not understand it.

However, if the president's philosophy is convincing and understandable, the employees will be ignited.

Understood, if the president thinks so, we'll follow you! "President, I want to help you from the bottom of my heart, so that we can make the company better together. "It's very important to show up for employees who say that.

The key to business is to increase the number of such employees, even if it is just one.

3. People who carry out their beliefs throughoutto have true courage

It takes courage to get the job right.

In normal times, we are often afraid of offending people and dare not make it clear what should be said, and dare not carry out the right things in the right way to the end.

Knowing that taking the difficult road is the right direction, but still choosing the comfortable path. Later, he regretted: "I should have mustered up the courage to choose the right path." ”

Generally speaking, people who face a difficult job or a new job, do not consider the risks, take the initiative to raise their hands, and bravely challenge, we often think that they are people with courage.

However, "true courage" is not the same as the courage of such heroes.

"True courage" is something that is learned only after a lot of battles and is able to carry out convictions from the very beginning.

Especially when it comes to security, we have sayings: "Have the courage to be called a coward" and "Think about safety first when you are confused".

Even if we are criticized for a while, we must still act with a sense of mission and responsibility to be highly responsible for our noble life, and this is "true courage."

4. The reason for the success is that it has been takenWays to push yourself into a corner

I had this experience when I was doing research. I worked tirelessly for days and nights, but I couldn't get the desired results.

While I was pondering, I deliberately pushed myself to the limit - and continued to experiment day and night.

I was struggling in a desperate situation, but in the process, a feeling of enlightenment suddenly traveled through my body like lightning.

The tension that had been in place was relieved, and the idea to solve the problem began to flash, and the experiment was carried out according to the inspiration, and the result was a great success.

This is my personal experience.

After graduating from a local university, I worked at Matsukaze Kogyo in Kyoto, where I started research on fine ceramics, but I didn't have any prior expertise and was not considered a good engineer.

I was originally interested in petrochemistry, especially organic chemistry related to synthetic resins, which was my main focus in college and the intended topic for graduation.

However, because I couldn't find a job before graduation, I finally got a pottery job in the field of inorganic chemistry, so I could only temporarily change the theme of graduation to inorganic chemistry, and the grinding gun was completed.

Of course, I've taken inorganic chemistry courses and earned credits, so I'm not ignorant of them. But I'm not interested in inorganic chemistry.

With continuous research, I finally succeeded in synthesizing a new type of ceramic material.

Later I learned that the same material had already been developed by the research institute of General Electric Company in the United States, and a year after their successful development, I had achieved the synthesis of the material in a completely different way.

As a result, this material became the main product of Matsukaze Industry at that time, and it was also the main product of Kyocera in the early days of its founding.

It stands to reason that a person like me, who graduated from a local university and does not have the relevant expertise, would not have succeeded in synthesizing this new material.

The reason why I was able to succeed was because I took the approach of pushing myself into a corner—I threw myself into research with a strong desire to "make the research work fruitful" no matter what, and I pushed myself to the limit of "madness".

In the process, I was able to get a "flash of inspiration" and get a revelation that made the development a success.

5. Some careers need to change constantlyConstantly expanding into new businesses

If you do a new business, you will make a profit if you succeed. But even if a new business is successful for a while, problems will ensue when the business declines. With this in mind, it is necessary to start another new business. In this way, Kyocera has been working hard and developing new businesses one after another, and Kyocera has become where it is today. Daiei's founder, Mr. Nakauchi, ran a supermarket, which started out as a grocery store. Later, it expanded nationwide and became the largest local retail store with sales of more than 1,000 billion yen. This is a situation where the industry continues to dig deep and encounters a large vein. There is also Mr. Fujita of McDonald's, who obtained the franchise of McDonald's, opened a hamburger restaurant, and made a large company listed with a single product of hamburger. In such a business, if you regard an industry as the main business, concentrate your efforts, continue to work hard, and you can ensure the development of the business. However, this is not the case with some businesses, and it is necessary to constantly change and develop new ones. That's the type of business I do. But I'm taking advantage of the situation. Since it is not a type of business that can be developed by focusing on one line and one industry, I have to think about how to apply my products to other fields one after another, and use this method to expand my business. For this reason, I have traveled a path that is several times more difficult than others. The path that Mr. Nakauchi of Daiei walked may have been a roadless road at first, but as he moved forward, he came across a wide asphalt road that had been paved. However, the roads I walked were muddy and often slippery. I'm on a path out of nowhere.
