In the 1949 battle of crossing the Yangtze River, the Yangtze River moat, which was held by a million Kuomintang troops, was defeated in one blow under the attack of the People's Liberation Army's million-strong army. Chiang Kai-shek began to prepare for a rout and escape to the island of Taiwan, in an attempt to use the Taiwan Strait to rival the People's Liberation Army. In December 1949, the Nationals** officially announced their withdrawal from Taiwan.

After the Kuomintang army withdrew to Taiwan, the most lacking at that time were young men, because only by relying on these people could they replenish the army and resist the military operations of the PLA. For this reason, before withdrawing to the mainland, the Kuomintang began to arrest Zhuangding in the southeast coastal areas, such as in 1950, the last retreat from Dongshan, Fujian, Zhoushan, Zhejiang, with the slogan of saving mainland youth, began to arrest Ding on the island and take it to Taiwan. Tens of thousands of families were shattered overnight, and the fate of tens of thousands of people was changed overnight.

In addition to arresting a large number of strong men, Chiang Kai-shek, in order to attract young people to Taiwan, also began to do propaganda work in major colleges and universities along the southeast coast, as well as primary and secondary schools, to lure some aspiring young people to rush to Taiwan. As a result, many outstanding young people were lured to the island of Taiwan, and David Wei was one of them.

David Wei was born in Sicun Town, Xiangzhou County, Guangxi Province in 1930, but he grew up in Guilin. Since 1941, David Wei has studied in the Provincial Lingui Middle School and the Private Youth Middle School. In 1946, David Wei entered Guilin Tutorial School, studied vocal music in Guilin Xiangshan Art Garden in 1948, and went to Guangzhou in July 1949.

Wei Dawei's thinking has always been more radical, and he went to Guangzhou because he was the president of the student union in the university, and then the police wanted to arrest him, so he fled to Guangzhou. After David Wei ran to Guangzhou, David Wei, who had just stepped into the society, did not understand the changes in the situation at that time, so he was admitted to the Army Military Academy under the foolishness of the Kuomintang, but he did not expect that it was a **, and the Kuomintang was preparing to send a group of young people to Taiwan.

After arriving at the sea, David Wei learned that it was not for him to be an officer at all, but that there was a reward for those who recruited soldiers, and if they deceived many people to go to Taiwan, they could get rewards according to their heads. After arriving in Taiwan, the Kuomintang army was afraid that they would escape, so at first they escorted them to Fengshan, and then transferred them to Hongmao Port, where they carried *** all day long and was actually a private, he had been planning how to escape, but it was very dangerous, and he would be shot if he was caught.

One night, David Wei saw two men fleeing, and he immediately ran after them. Later, Wei Dawei felt that the goal of the three of them running together was too big, and it was likely to be caught, so he hid in the local sugarcane field, and hid it for 21 days, drinking stream water and gnawing sugarcane when he was thirsty, and digging sweet potatoes when he was hungry, and catching fish in the river to roast and eat. Taiwan's climate is relatively humid, and the weather is cloudy and sunny, Wei David is often drenched in heavy rain when he sleeps in the sugar cane field, so he hid for more than 20 days, fled to Pingdong, where he met a fellow who had already settled in Taiwan, and this fellow later recommended to work in the navy.

In order to make a living, David Wei was admitted to the Naval Officer Academy, and after graduation, he was assigned to Yongtai**. Yongtai ** was one of the eight ** of the Kuomintang Army at that time, the scale was very large, and the officers and soldiers of the army were treated very well, but Wei Dawei did not like to be on the ship, and still wanted to work in the air force.

The reason why he chose to go to the Air Force is because he likes the Air Force, and their three uncles were all Air Force pilots, two died in the Anti-Japanese War, and one died in a plane crash. Second, because he had the opportunity to act alone, he had the opportunity to fly the fighter back to the mainland.

At that time, the Kuomintang Air Force had very strict requirements for the recruitment of pilots, and they had to have a certain level of education and good health, and few people could be admitted. However, Wei Dawei's conditions were very good, and he was greatly influenced by his family since he was a child, and the personnel recruited by the Kuomintang Air Force saw him and chose him without hesitation.

When David Wei joined the Air Force, he did not inform his old unit, and the Navy did not know, but when the Navy learned about it, it did not agree with anything and detained him. David Wei tried to run out again, but because the time for enlistment had not yet arrived, he could not report to the Air Force immediately. The people in the air force were afraid that he would be captured by the navy, so they gave him a sum of money and asked him to find a place to live quietly, not to be caught by the navy people, and to come back when he enlisted.

It was not easy for the Kuomintang Navy to train individuals at that time, so they sent people to look for him everywhere, and David Wei hid outside for several months in fear, and finally waited until the Air Force Officer School opened. In 1951, he was admitted to the Air Force Military Academy for the 25th period of flight study, David Wei is a very charismatic figure, when he was in the Navy, he was the head of many cadets, and when he arrived in the Air Force, many cadets also revolved around him.

David Wei's ideas and language have always been more radical, and when he was in the navy, the Kuomintang Navy Political Department suspected that he was sent by the Communist Party. But after arriving in the Air Force, people began to suspect him again, and because there was no evidence, they sent people to talk to him every day.

At that time, David Wei took off at three o'clock in the morning every day, and did not come back until noon, and he had to be asked to talk at night, which made him very tired, and he was sleepy when he flew the plane to perform tasks, and he didn't understand why his superiors liked to talk to him, and he knew that he had a mission early the next morning, and talked to him in the middle of the night.

In the end, David Wei's flight instructor couldn't stand the way these spies did it, so he said to him, "Have you ever considered why they keep talking to you at night?" David Wei said, "I don't know." "Obviously, they want to make you mentally bad, they want to get rid of you as a person, and let you fall to your death," the instructor said. They suspect you, but they can't arrest you without evidence. You are homeless and unemployed in Taiwan, why are you hanging yourself from a tree? ”

After listening to the instructor's words, David Wei was scared into a cold sweat for the rest of his life. He felt that he couldn't continue to stay in Taiwan, otherwise he would have to be killed by these people.

Wei David's thoughts were quickly seen by his superiors, so the Air Force Command transferred him to the Taipei Command and forbade him to touch the plane again, in fact, putting him under house arrest. Later, the army released him for a while, but within a month, he was arrested again, and after ten days in Taipei, he was transferred to the Tainan Air Force Prison.

At that time, there were a total of eight people who were imprisoned with Wei Dawei, and the remaining seven were Wei Dawei's classmates at the Air Force Military Academy, in fact, none of them were communists, but they just said a few radical words, and they were noticed by the Kuomintang spies, and then they were all imprisoned. Among these eight people, David Wei's words are the most radical, so in the eyes of the Kuomintang agents, his identity is also the most suspicious.

Later, the Kuomintang Air Force detained Wei Dawei and several others on Huosha Island, that is, Green Island, and no one knew when they would be released. But among these eight people, one of them had a backstage, and after sending the money, they were all released, but David Wei lost his job**.

At that time, Taiwan's economy was backward, and it was difficult to find a job. Later, he gave people a sawmill, and the sawmill often had accidents, which was very dangerous; After two or three months, he was arranged to take care of the garbage truck, saying that it was a garbage truck, but it was not all garbage, and there were a lot of Coca-Cola, canned meat, and drinks, and David Wei collected all these foods and sold them all, making a lot of money.

David Wei is very business-minded, after he made the first pot of gold, he stopped taking out the garbage, but hired a few people, asked them to do it, and just shared a little of the money with him. After having the money, David Wei went to the Taipei Flight Club, and because David Wei was born in the Air Force, the Taipei Flight Club asked him to be a flight instructor.

The management of the Taipei Flying Club was much more relaxed than that of the Kuomintang Air Force, so David Wei began to observe the performance of various types of aircraft and prepare to implement his plan to return home. In the Taipei Flying Society, there is a special tourist plane of Chiang Kai-shek's second son, Chiang Weiguo, which was originally the command plane of the armored corps, with special pilots, special guards, and special hangars, and it is also very secretive, even the pilots cannot approach this plane casually.

David Wei often used a telescope to observe some of the operation, instruments, and design of this plane from a distance, learned about Jiang Weiguo's habits and time of using this plane, and finally determined the date of escape.

In the early morning of January 7, 1956, David Wei found an opportunity to immediately take off with Jiang Weiguo's special plane when the airport duty personnel were changing guards. The tower immediately asked, "Who took off from here?" David Wei replied: "My name is David Wei, and I told Chiang Kai-shek that Lao Tzu is gone." At that time, the radio kept advising David Wei: "The sea of bitterness is boundless, and turning back is the shore." He also promised that as long as he returned, everything would be fine. David Wei replied: "Forget it, Lao Tzu has been deceived by you for seven years, you can fight if you can, anyway, I won't go back." ”

After David Wei piloted the plane to take off, alarms suddenly erupted at Taoyuan and Hsinchu air bases near Taipei, and four F86 fighters in a state of first-class combat readiness immediately took off to intercept them. David Wei originally wanted to fly along the Tamsui River to the mouth of the sea, but he calculated that it would take about 8 minutes, and according to the speed of the F-86, it would be able to reach the mouth of the sea at that time, so he had to change course.

It was a rainy day, the clouds were very thick, Wei David flew directly over the official residence of Chiang Kai-shek in Yangmingshan, although the F-86 was very fast, but the terrain was not as familiar as Wei David, so he did not dare to fly as low as Wei David. Flying out of the sea, David Wei saw three ships of the Seventh Fleet of the US Navy, one of which was a destroyer, the anti-aircraft fire was very strong, David Wei couldn't afford to provoke it, and flew back again, after returning to Keelung, David Wei swooped down from the screen mountain, flew out against the sea, and avoided the range of the Seventh Fleet.

David Wei originally wanted to fly to Fuzhou, but his radio connection with the mainland was never continuous, and he felt that Fuzhou was a medium-sized city and a frontline against Taiwan, and the anti-aircraft firepower was very strong, so he flew to Quanzhou again.

On August 2, 1961, the Fujian front-line air force unit shot down a US-made Jiang Army RF-101 reconnaissance plane and captured Wu Baozhi, a Kuomintang pilot who had parachuted. According to Wu Baozhi's confession, when David Wei returned to the mainland, two F86 fighters were already waiting for him in the sky over Fuzhou, and Wu Baozhi was the squadron leader who led the team at that time.

At that time, China's air force was relatively weak, so the Kuomintang air force could arbitrarily come to the mainland to reconnoiter and bomb, and after David Wei's uprising, several planes flew over Fuzhou and other areas. The air defense units on the Fujian front were also in a state of nervous standby, and when David Wei flew into Quanzhou Bay, anti-aircraft guns crackled.

But after Wei David flew in, the anti-aircraft guns stopped firing, because Ye Fei, the commander of the Fuzhou Military Region at that time, judged that it might be an uprising plane, and immediately ordered: If it continues to fly in the direction of the mainland, protect it; If you return to Taiwan, you will shoot it down.

There are many mountains in Fujian, so after David Wei couldn't find the airport, he could only find a flat place to land as much as possible. At that time, although the antiaircraft artillery units of the People's Liberation Army received orders to stop firing, their means of communication were backward, and many ground troops did not receive orders. When David Wei made a forced landing, the PLA who landed in the woods fired with machine guns and rifles, and the plane was hit by four bullets, but David Wei was not injured. After that, David Wei was picked up, and the commander of the Fuzhou Military Region and ** invited him to dinner.

After David Wei piloted the plane to revolt, he was immediately cordially received by the leaders of the older generation of countries.

On June 11, 1956, David Wei was assigned to the pilot of civil aviation, and at that time David Wei was regarded as a well-known hero in the country and often went to various places to make reports. After work, David Wei often saw *** because *** was also *** long at that time, and often asked the airport to welcome him, so when the foreign guests had not yet arrived, ** would chat with him.

In his later years, David Wei served as the first.

He is a member of the 7th, 8th and 9th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, an advisor to the World Federation of Overseas Chinese Associations, a director of the China Overseas Friendship Association, a liaison member of the Whampoa Military Academy Alumni Association, a deputy director of the Committee for the Promotion of the Peaceful Reunification of the Motherland of the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang, and a vice president of the Beijing Aviation Friendship Association.
