TriangleThe story of the alley

Triangle"It is an informal place name that has been used for a long time, and it has a long historical background.

2022 Mobile Map Triangle Discovery] The birth of the triangle originated from the urban planning of the Changchun subsidiary of the Manchurian Railway, and its unique flat matrix diagonal street park square street pattern makes the blocks here form a unique triangular shape.

It is clear from the map of the Manchurian Railway annex that the spacing between the bars here is always greater than the distance between the roads. Any adjacent two vertical and horizontal streets can be enclosed into a similar rectangular block; The diagonal street divides the adjacent rectangular blocks into triangular blocks of different sizes, forming a unique triangle.

This really makes the diagonal street "boundless", the rectangular block buildings are neat, and the triangular block is a little uneven. However, thanks to the 100-year-old Japanese-style architecture, which mostly uses corner planar structures, it has found a way out for the triangular block.

Therefore, in the urban planning of "Xinjing" in the early days of the puppet Manchurians, the practice of annexing the Manchurian Railway was no longer followed, but instead the diagonal streets were removed, and the round square was appropriately introduced, and the rectangular blocks were not set in stone.

Such a unique phenomenon of triangular blocks has become a major feature of the Manchurian Railway.

Facing the veteran of the Japanese invasion of China across the table, I really want to slap him in the mouth" (which has attracted a lot of attention and thinking.

Li Suzhen's personal experience] Junichi Hirai, director of the Japan-China Oral History and Culture Research Association, tells the truth about the "Xinjing" plague incident The "Xinjing" plague was an epidemic that occurred in the "triangle" in 1940, and brought a profound disaster to the new capital with a population of about 400,000 at that time.

In this disaster, Ms. Li Suzhen experienced all kinds of things, she said: "This man-made fire burned one after another from the bungalow to the two-story building in the encircled area, and after about three hours, the burning of the main part of the triangle was completed. ”

And these fires were personally commanded by Japan's senior ** Tomio Muto. Here, we would like to express our gratitude to Mr. Li Suzhen and this oral history, their revelation has allowed us to better understand the truth of this history.

Triangle", a term that has been widely used since the Puppet Manchu period, refers to the central area of Xinjing, where the plague occurred. After reading the article, I was fascinated by the area and started looking for the exact location of the "triangle".

After many inquiries, most people confirmed that the "triangle" is located at the intersection of Nanjing Street and East Street, which is what everyone calls the "triangle" of Guiyang Street.

Located in the south of the Changchun Railway Station of the Manchurian Railway, the "Triangle" is a landmark location at the junction of the two blocks. The first block is located north of Qingdao Road, which was originally known as Hengba Street, which extends eastward between Dongyi Street and Dongertiao Street, intersecting Wusong Road.

The above** was taken in late September 2022 and shows the unique geographical location and historical features of the "Triangle".

Title: Toudaogou - Changchun's "Watershed" and "Little Secret" In 1921, on the map of the Changchun annex of the Manchurian Railway, you can see the second block south of Wusong Road, which was still called Toudaogou Street at that time.

The area is relatively high and is crossed by a river called Toudaogou, so it was developed relatively late. The existence of this Toudaogou also affected the street layout of the area, so that the horizontal street had to be carried out along the Toudaogou.

In addition, there was a small river between Ningbo Road and Xiamen Road, but in 1940, this small river had disappeared. The changes of history have made this former "watershed" gradually become a part of Changchun's little secrets.

However, these unique historical traces provide us with valuable urban memories and cultural heritage.

A 1915 map of the Changchun Manchurian Railway Annexation shows that many streets have not yet been built in the vicinity of the triangle. If there had been a "Hengjiu Street" at that time, there would have been no "triangle".

Wusong Road and Qingdao Road intersect, forming an acute angle. This type of street corner is different from the street corner formed by the diagonal street cutting into the rectangular block. The Manchurian Railway's annex has only one distinctive street corner, which ends in a regular triangle to the west by an east street.

However, Nanjing Avenue emerged diagonally inward, cutting the original triangle and forming two small triangles: Qingdao Road - East Street - Nanjing Street and Nanjing Street - Wusong Road - East Street.

Therefore, the "triangle" actually has nothing to do with Guiyang Street.

The "triangle" in the old ** carries the historical memory of Changchun. In particular, the streets and roads attached to the Manchurian Railway are usually straight, but the exception is at the intersection of Wusong Road, Dongyi Street and Nanjing Street.

On Wusong Road in history, there used to be a concentration of Japanese religions, the location of the original Xinfa Street Office on the west side of the "Triangle", and the southeast corner of the intersection of Wusong Road and East Street (that is, Guiyang Street), all used to be Japanese temples.

Located at the southeast corner of the intersection of Guiyang Street and Wusong Road, Nichiren Sokei-ji Temple is an ancient Japanese temple. You can refer to the "Changchun Street Road Atlas" to learn more about this temple.

Located in the northwest corner of the intersection of Wusong Road and East Street, near the Japanese temple "Higashi Honganji Annex", there is an alley, named Guiyang Hutong, which was built in 1921, originally called Daya Street Hutong, running north-south, starting from Wusong Road in the north and Xiamen Road in the south, with a total length of 157 meters.

The intersection of Wusong Road and Guiyang Hutong, near which is the triangle, taken in September 2022] The east side of Guiyang Hutong is the Guiyang high-rise, and as you can see from the historical map, there are more Japanese signboards on both sides of Wusong Road and Daya Street Hutong, which indicates that this is a Japanese settlement.

Guiyang Street under Historical Mapping: From Daya Street Hutong to Seagull Park] In Guiyang Hutong in 1932, there was a place called Daya Street Hutong. And now, friends of this place still remember a little "triangle", everyone calls it Seagull Park.

The symbol of this park is that it has a five-story building on its west side, affectionately known as the "Five Section Building". Time has passed, but these historical imprints are still clearly visible.

Located on the north side of Shanghai Road, on the west side of the south exit of Dongsantiao Street, which is adjacent to the Provincial Political Consultative Conference, there is a small triangle known as the "Wujie Building". With the widening of Shanghai Road, this small triangle has been incorporated into the scope of Shanghai Road.

The "triangle" is a common place name that often comes from the street that intersects it. For example, in the Kuancheng District of Changchun City, there is a place called "Guiyang Street Triangle", which is the place where two sharp corners meet, and this intersection is located at the intersection of the north end of Guiyang Street, so it can be said to be a very important location.

The Triangle, a place that carries the nostalgia of many people. It is a street park, morning exercise, leisure, and a good place for nearby residents to spend their leisure time. The surrounding area used to be a driver's license test center, a special place to test detour driving.

What's more interesting is that because of the blessing of the Xinfa Street Office and Kuancheng District, it has become a social activity center.

The special restaurants around the triangle are also a highlight that attracts people, such as hot pot, barbecue, mutton soup, etc., each with its own characteristics and full of popularity.

Looking at the triangle from Guiyang Street] Once in the morning, I met a group of friends in the "triangle" of Guiyang Street, they all grew up here and have a deep affection for every inch of land, every building, and every corner here.

It's full of warm and beautiful memories of them, and it's unforgettable. However, I don't think the folks of the Triangle would have imagined that in 1940 there was an outbreak of plague and it was burned.

It made me feel a deep silence.
