Moscow, Feb. 1 (Xinhua) -- The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation said on Feb. 1 that it had confirmed the identity of the deceased in the crash of the Russian Il-76 military transport plane.
The commission said on its official website on the same day that it had confirmed through genetic testing that the human remains collected at the crash site were from the people on board, including 65 captured Ukrainian servicemen. The Russian side usually collects the necessary biometric information from captured Ukrainian servicemen to build relevant files.
The commission also announced on the same day that, after investigation, the transport plane was attacked by two missiles from the Kharkiv region at that time. Investigators found 116 pieces of debris near the likely place where the plane was attacked. The fragments were identified as elements of the MiM-104A missile system made by the United States in terms of structural features, geometric parameters and markings.
Putin said on January 31 that the Russian side confirmed that the Il-76 military transport plane carrying Ukrainian servicemen was shot down by the "Patriot" missile system.
