SK hynix, the world's second-largest memory chip maker, is forming an alliance with TSMC to strengthen its partnership in the field of artificial intelligence (AI), South Korea reported.

South Korea's **Pulse reported on the 7th, citing industry sources, that SK hynix and TSMC jointly formed a strategic alliance of One Team, and the cooperation plan of the two sides includes joint research and development of the 6th generation of high-bandwidth memory (HBM), also known as HBM4.

The purpose of this strategic alliance is to combine the technical expertise of both companies in the field of next-generation AI semiconductor packaging to strengthen each other's position in the AI chip market.

On the other hand, the strategic alliance is also believed to be aimed at countering South Korea's Samsung Electronics.

Observers speculate that TSMC will handle part of the HBM4 production process. Compared to other existing products, the compatibility of the new generation is expected to be significantly improved.

With generative AI in the spotlight, SK hynix has become a key player in the HBM market. And TSMC is the world's largest semiconductor manufacturer.

Both companies are working to strengthen their presence in the AI chip market to compete with Nvidia.

TSMC dominates the market by producing graphics processors (GPUs) for NVIDIA; As for HBMs that support GPU computing, SK hynix has more than half of the market share.
