On February 26, 2024, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and head of the Communist Party of China, attended the high-level meeting of the 55th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Beijing and delivered a speech entitled "Building Consensus, Uniting and Cooperation, and Jointly Promoting the Healthy Development of the World Human Rights Cause".

Wang Yi said that protecting and promoting human rights is the common cause of all mankind. At present, the international situation is becoming more turbulent, crises and conflicts are occurring one after another, and the global human rights governance deficit is even more serious. The current round of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict has caused nearly 30,000 civilians to be killed and nearly 2 million people to be left behind, which is deplorable. It is the common responsibility of the international community to protect the human rights of every nation and every person in a fair, equal, effective manner.

Wang Yi pointed out that it is necessary to uphold the supremacy of the people, take the protection of the people's interests as the starting point and end goal of the human rights cause, and put the people's right to survival and development in a more prominent and urgent position. We oppose interfering in other countries' internal affairs and curbing their development under the guise of human rights. We need to uphold openness and inclusiveness, respect the diversity of world civilizations, respect the independent choice of human rights development paths by all countries, and not impose our own values and development models on others. It is necessary to adhere to win-win cooperation, advocate dialogue to build consensus, exchange and enhance mutual learning, safeguard human rights through security, promote human rights through development, and advance human rights through cooperation, and properly handle new issues such as artificial intelligence and human rights.

Wang Yi stressed that UN human rights bodies should carry out their work in a fair and objective manner, uphold the principles of non-selectivity and non-politicization, and attach equal importance to various human rights, including economic, social and cultural rights, civil and political rights. Multilateral human rights institutions should become a platform for all parties to build and cooperate, rather than a battlefield for bloc politics and bloc confrontation.

Wang Yi said: The Communist Party of China and China have always taken seeking happiness for the Chinese people and rejuvenation of the Chinese nation as their unswerving goal, promoted the development of Chinese's human rights cause by leaps and bounds, and embarked on a human rights development path that conforms to the trend of the times and suits its own national conditions. We have historically solved the problem of absolute poverty, and more than 1.4 billion Chinese people have entered a well-off society in all respects. We have continued to develop whole-process people's democracy, and the people's right to be masters of the country has been more fully realized. We have built the world's largest education, social security and medical and health systems, and the people's sense of gain, happiness and security has been continuously enhanced. We insist that all ethnic groups and groups share human rights equally, forge a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation, and embrace the 56 ethnic groups like pomegranate seeds. As a responsible major country, China actively participates in global human rights governance and promotes the conclusion of a series of important international human rights conventions and declarations. The concept of building a community with a shared future for mankind reflects the universal aspirations of the people of all countries and injects strong Chinese impetus into international human rights protection.

Wang Yi said that there is no best way to protect human rights, only better. China is making the fruits of modernization more and more equitable to all people, and is constantly improving the level of human rights protection. We will always link our own destiny with the destiny of the people of all countries in the world, actively promote the common values of all mankind, work with all parties to promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind, and make new contributions to the healthy development of the world's human rights cause.
