In 1985, in order to benchmark itself against the world's first-class, the Military Commission decided to carry out a million-dollar disarmament and dismantled the 66th Army and its subordinate divisions. However, even in the midst of such reforms, the only seedlings in the army are still a strong force, which proves the strong strength of our army.

As a result of a series of measures such as withdrawal, merger, surrender, handover, reform, and management, our army has successfully formed a pattern of seven major military regions, with 24 group armies under its jurisdiction, and continues to make contributions to the country's peace and development.

The Beijing Military Region has undergone major changes, in which the 66th and 69th armies have been withdrawn and reorganized, and the group armies under the jurisdiction of the military region have also been adjusted. The following is a brief introduction to the predecessor and successor units of the 66th Army: The 66th Army was established in February 1949 and was formed on the basis of the 1st Column of the Field Army of the North China Military Region.

Although the foundation of the army was inferior to that of the old main field army, it performed well in the War of Liberation and the battles during the period of resisting US aggression and aiding Korea. In 1951, the 66th Army returned to China and undertook the important task of guarding Tianjin.

In 1961, the organs and some of the units directly under the 198th Division were transferred to the Navy and reorganized into the Naval Research Institute, and the reconstruction of the division will be described in detail below. In short, although the 197th and 198th Divisions were withdrawn, they had a glorious military history and military exploits.

In the War of Liberation, the 197 Division participated in a number of battles and performed well. In 1950, the 197th Division entered the Korean War with the army and participated in the first to fourth battles.

After returning to China in March 1951, the veterans of the 197th Division of the former 66th Army were reorganized with an artillery regiment and a chariot regiment attached to the division.

In January 1957, the 197th Division was transferred to the 74th Division of the 24th Army, temporarily breaking away from the battle sequence of the 66th Army. However, in October 1969, the 197th Division was reintegrated into the 66th Army.

In August 1985, the 197th Division was reorganized into the 5th Garrison Brigade of the Beijing Military Region and was managed by the 24th Group Army. In 1992, due to the streamlining and reorganization of the whole army, the 5th Garrison Brigade was forced to withdraw.

In addition, in November 1969, the ** Military Commission established the 198th Division based on the 5th Engineering Work Area, which belonged to the 66th Army. It should be noted that the 5th Work Area was officially established in December 1964 and was under the jurisdiction of the 1st Engineer Construction Regiment.

In terms of bloodline inheritance, the 5th work area is still the 66th Army responsible for the formation. The ** of each regiment of the 198th Division is as follows: the 592nd Regiment is mainly based on most of the original 159th Regiment; The 593rd Regiment was dominated by most of the original 160th Regiment; The 594th Regiment is mainly composed of 4 companies of the original 159th Regiment and 1 battalion of the 160th Regiment; Divisional artillery regiments and antiaircraft artillery battalions are formed by artillery units drawn from military units and divisions.

After the 5th Work Area was withdrawn, the 161st Regiment remained unchanged, and the 162nd Regiment was transferred to the 65th Army (later changed to the 1st Garrison Regiment of the Beijing Military Region).

In the following ten years, the 198th Division carried forward the fine tradition of infrastructure engineering troops and made many contributions on the front line of supporting local economic construction.

In October 1981, the 198th Division was responsible for the project of bringing Luan into Tianjin. Two years later, the project was completed ahead of schedule and was awarded by the Military Commission. At the same time, the 198th Division, as part of the million-dollar disarmament, followed the fine traditions of the army and was ordered to withdraw and contribute to the army's strong military cause.

In comparison, the 196th Division was much luckier and became the only seedling of the 66th Army. The division was formed in August 1946 and has undergone several rearrangements and name changes.

In February 1949, the division was renamed the 66th Division of the 196th Army. During the War of Liberation, with its solid military and political foundation, tough work style, and courageous fighting spirit, the division became a fist unit in the hands of the superior commanders, and participated in 10 major battles.

In October 1950, the 196th Division entered the Korean War with the army, and together with the 197th Division, experienced battles during the Korean period.

In March 1951, the 196th Division (then part of the 66th Army) withdrew from Korea and returned home. In August, the division added a divisional artillery regiment, which used to use the number of the 576th Artillery Regiment.

At the same time, the 4th Independent Tank Regiment of the Armored Corps was reassigned to the 196th Division and renamed the 401st Tank Self-Propelled Artillery Regiment. This unit was the first field division in our country to be regularized and reorganized at that time.

In the next three years, the 196th Division created many glories: the first in the whole army to carry out Soviet-style ** modification; The first in the army to carry out domestically produced ** modification; The first army to open to the outside world.

In January 1961, the division was identified by the Central Military Commission as one of the first ten combat readiness duty divisions in the country. However, in September 1968, the 401st Tank Self-Propelled Artillery Regiment was transferred to the 6th Tank Division.

Since then, the 196th Division has been existing in the 66th Army sequence as a Division A. In 1985, the 66th Army was dismantled, and the 196th Division was transferred to the Tianjin Garrison District, and the establishment of the Northern B Division was implemented, becoming the only survivor of the original 66th Army.

In September 1998, the ** Military Commission implemented a major disarmament of 500,000, and the 196th Division began to implement the establishment of a motorized infantry brigade. In September 1999, the 196th Mobu Brigade was transferred to the 24th Group Army, getting rid of the fate of "reserve" and once again returning to the combat sequence of field troops.

In 2003, in a new round of structural adjustments, the 24th Group Army was withdrawn, and the 196th Mobu Brigade was moved under the flag of the 65th Group Army. In February 2016, the Beijing Military Region completed its historical mission, and the 196th Mobu Brigade was transferred to the Central Theater Army with the 65th Group Army.

In a new round of military reform in 2017, the 65th Group Army was withdrawn, and the 196th Mobu Brigade was incorporated into the combat sequence of the 82nd Group Army of the Central Theater Army, and transformed into a composite force.

Since then, the bloodline of the 66th Army of the former Beijing Military Region has become a trendy person on the journey of strengthening the army with high morale and full of enthusiasm.
