On February 21, Volvo announced that it would simplify the naming of its electric vehicles to support its goal of becoming fully electric by 2030. The EV models, previously known as the XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge, will be renamed EX40 and EC40, respectively, in line with the newly launched EX30, EX90 and EM90 EVs.
The Volvo EX40IT House notes that in addition to the name change, Volvo has also introduced a new Performance package for the EX40 and EC40 dual-motor versions, which can also be used as an upgrade package for previous models in select markets.
The Volvo EC40's new Performance package boosts power delivery by 25 kW and offers unique pedal mapping for faster acceleration. The new "Performance" driving mode unlocks up to 325 kilowatts of power. The software package can be optionally installed on new models, while older models can be purchased directly and integrated into the on-board system.
Volvo has also introduced a special edition model in black for the EX40, EC40 and XC40, which includes black paint, black badges, 20-inch alloy wheels, and black fabric or leatherette upholstery.
Volvo EC40 Black Edition In January this year, Volvo achieved its 17th consecutive month of sales growth, with electric vehicles being the main driver. Last year, electric vehicles accounted for 16% of Volvo's total sales. Volvo expects its growth momentum to continue in 2024 as EVs in segments such as the EX30 become available. In addition, its first three-row electric SUV, the EX90, and its first luxury electric MPV, the EM90, will also be available this year.
