Len x Xiaomei

I have a wide range of interests, I like photography, table tennis, swimming, drawing, etc.

Xiaomei: How to start the fate with Meixing?

Len:

The beauty pageant was because my parents thought it was reliable after inspecting a number of institutions, so they asked me to come to the beauty pageant.

Len:

Xiaomei: Personal interests and specialties.

Len:

My hobbies include photography, table tennis, swimming, and I am good at drawing, Chinese painting and colored pencils. I have a soft spot for Van Gogh's paintings, and I like his understanding of color and his different views of the world. I am also particularly interested in Renaissance sculpture, such as Michelangelo's statue of Moses.

Of course, ** is also an indispensable part of my life, and Jay Chou's ** will accompany me in the cycle of creation.

Xiaomei: Why did you choose this major?

Len:

My enlightenment to the beauty of fashion ** and kW, his way of matching clothes has had a profound impact since I was 12 years old, and I gradually became very interested in fashion design as I got to know the designers behind him. Looking at the beautiful, grotesque, conservative costumes on each catwalk, I imagined that I could make such eye-catching works like them.

The quality of teaching by Meixing teachers has increased my confidence, and my state has changed a lot.

Xiaomei: Share 1-2 stories of your learning in Meixing

Len:

After taking the class, I am not as confused about my future as before, and I have more confidence in my offer and works than before.

The quality of the teachers' teaching and the expertise I have learned have given me a lot of confidenceI used to feel that I was far behind others. However, during the six-month course, the teacher's aesthetic guidance made me feel that I had accumulated a lot, and allowed me to have a broader vision of things and events, which really made me feel a lot better!

And my previous ideas were always a little biased towards the Gothic or dark style on the British side, and even a little single when I thought about it or when I created, but with the help of my teacher, my portfolio is quite positive hahahaha, while retaining conciseness and clarity without lacking connotation.

I use clothing design to call attention to endangered species.

Xiaomei: Tell us about your favorite portfolio

Len:

My most satisfying project was the first costume project I made, and I was inspired by a species as old as the trilobite. Although they are living fossils and are still alive in this world, this identity did not give them access to the Iron Scroll of the Dan.

Because its blood is rich in copper ions, the blood is blue, so it is extracted by humans to make a reagent, which can accurately and quickly detect whether the internal tissues of the human body are caused by bacterial infection.

And the fact that they are endangered because of their perennial killing by humans made me want to spread the word to more people, so I used the fabric woven from blue and white hoses to make clothes that I thought were unique and aesthetically pleasing.

This outfit is the first outfit I designed, both in terms of color and shape, and I am most satisfied with the effect from sketching to sample to ready-to-wear.

Teacher Meixing has given me a lot of inspiration and stimulated some of my potential, and has helped me a lot in thinking.

Xiaomei: What do you think is the biggest challenge in the process of learning?

Len:

I think the biggest challenge in the process of learning is to come up with ideas for each project, and although the production process is endless, the initial brainstorming process makes me the most restless.

Because it's really too difficult, to look at something from a different perspective or to observe a side that others can't see; That's exactly what a top college like Parsons requires, but having a good start makes the rest of the process easier.

An excerpt from Len's portfolio.

Under the guidance of my portfolio teacher (Mr. Han), I was able to find the ideas I wanted from documentaries, as well as some anecdotes from my childhood or trivia that was not lacking in secular standards.

Xiaomei: Learning and Harvesting in Meixing.

Len:

I have learned how to accomplish a thing that requires artistic attainment without kitsch, and I think the teacher of Meixing Siyuan has given me a lot of inspiration and stimulated some of my potential, given me a lot of help in thinking so that I can make such progress, and also guided me to a lot of painting skills, so as to express the imagination in my mind more efficiently, accurately, and well.

Len:

I think that choosing a teacher is not only based on the teacher's KPI and ability, but also depends on how well the teacher runs in with you.

Xiaomei: Some suggestions for juniors and juniors

Len:

Advice to the younger students, I personally think that choosing a teacher is not only to choose from the teacher's KPI and ability, but also to how well the teacher and you are running-in. For example, I went to high school in the United StatesThe teacher I chose also had the same experience in the United States as me, and had a good tacit understanding in terms of communication and cultural exchange, interest exchange, and guidance, which made my portfolio progress very quickly.

Len:

I think it's best to start a year and a half or more in advance, although I started in the summer vacation from grade 11 to grade 12, but the various assignments and schedules during the school year have also hindered my progress a lot, so the sooner the portfolio is made, the better, so as not to conflict with the node near graduation.

Xiaomei: Plans for the future.

Len:

I'm going to go to Europe or the UK for graduate school after four years of undergraduate studies at Parsons, because different cultures will produce different design concepts, which will help me be more inclusive when making clothes in the future.

I also plan to set up my own studio after an internship or a period of time in a big company in the fashion industry, or set up a new brand on my own, so that I can pretend and develop themes more freely.

Or it's not a good choice to come to Meixing Siyuan to be a teacher, and helping students to complete more dreams of prestigious schools is also a kind of feedback.
