Foreign media Restrictions have changed unexpectedly!
In order to obstruct the development of China's high technology, the United States has spared no effort over the years, from the previous "Wassenaar Arrangement" to impose restrictions on many countries, to trying to obstruct ASML's EUV lithography machine expedition to the Netherlands, and routine controls have emerged one after another.
In recent years, it has intensified, especially after Huawei led the global 5G, from the Quadripartite Alliance to the Tripartite Agreement, from individual control to comprehensive control, but the United States has not achieved the expected results, and relevant experts gave control results some time ago.
Some time ago, the author of the book "Chip Wars", who is also a well-known expert on the American side, expressed a special point of view in an interview with **. He believes that the mainland is steadily expanding the production of mature process chips, and the United States has panicked.
As a result, the mainland market will dominate mature process chips, and the US side may be in trouble in the future.
And this view is not only the author of "Chip Wars", on the contrary, a number of well-known analysts in the United States have also expressed a similar view: the United States is currently concentrating on the development of local advanced technology capabilities, and its maturity process will be limited.
In recent years, the U.S. has realized a serious decline in domestic chip production capacity, from 37% of global production capacity to just 12% today, with Apple, Qualcomm, Nvidia and many other U.S. chip-producing giants relying on foreign countries.
As a result, the United States eliminated a series of difficulties, finally approved the chip bill, revoked the 52 billion yuan subsidy, and supported the strengthening of local wafer production capacity, but the focus is still on the development of advanced technology, and even invited wafer manufacturers to build advanced process factories.
Like TSMC's 5nm and 3nm chip factories in the United States, Samsung's chip factories in the United States also use advanced 3nm processes.
There are also local chip companies in the United States that plan to promote or are promoting advanced processes, such as Intel, the former chip giant in the United States, restarting the chip foundry and formulating a five-generation and four-year technology recovery plan, focusing on advanced chip technology.
Intel has invested in a number of integrated circuit factories designed to compete with TSMC and Samsung for advanced process integrated circuits.
The U.S. Secretary of Commerce also said that advanced process wafers should be produced in the United States in the future. Clearly, wafer development in the U.S. is centered on advanced processes, so it is unlikely to support mature processes, which will create external dependency.
However, in terms of the overall wafer situation, the proportion of advanced process wafers is less than 30%, while the proportion of mature process wafers is more than 70%, and according to relevant analysis, the proportion of mature process will continue to increase in the next few years.
It is worth mentioning that while the United States is vigorously improving its own advanced processing capacity, it is also trying to restrict China's development of advanced technology. In this case, we quickly adjusted our thinking and vigorously accelerated the research and development of mature process chips.
SMIC) is a prime example, which has invested 170 billion yuan in the past two years to build four fabs with mature processes.
Of course, SMIC is not alone. According to relevant statistics, there are currently 44 factories in China, and 22 factories are under construction, accounting for 43% of the global total.
Based on global wafer capacity, excluding DRAM and NAND memory wafer capacity, it is expected that by 2024, the monthly wafer production capacity in mainland China will reach 8.6 million pieces, a year-on-year increase of 13%, accounting for 287%, ranking first in the world.
In other words, our mastery of mature processes is not just talking, it's becoming a reality!
The reason for this situation is that the United States mainly controls advanced technology, Japan and the Netherlands implement joint restrictions, and it is mainly the export of advanced semiconductor processing equipment, and mature processing equipment is not in the export control list.
On the one hand, because we are also accelerating the development of semiconductor manufacturing equipment, there are already a lot of mature processing equipment in China.
On the other hand, in the United States, where regulations are still more stringent, ASML in the Netherlands, Tokyo Electron and other equipment manufacturers in Japan, and even Applied Materials and Lam Research (the three largest semiconductor equipment manufacturers) in Chem, are speeding up shipments to the European continent.
Therefore, the United States cannot stop the development of mainland wafers, especially mature process wafers, while the world is slowing down the expansion of production, the mainland is continuing to accelerate the expansion of production, such a crazy mature process volume, the United States panicked?
In this regard, some foreign media bluntly said that the situation of being controlled by others suddenly reversed, and even if the United States has an advantage in advanced process chips in the future, it will be difficult to get rid of its dependence on mature process chips in the mainland market, and it will be reversed by the neck!
