On February 5, local time, Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Salman met with the visiting Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) Filipe Lazzarini in Doha, the capital of the country, and the two sides focused on discussing the current situation between Palestine and Israel.

Mohammed said Qatar would continue to support UNRWA. UNRWA had a great responsibility in the context of the catastrophic humanitarian situation facing civilians in the Gaza Strip, and it appreciated the crucial role it played in helping millions of civilians in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon.

Mohammed warned of the disastrous consequences of the suspension of funding to UNRWA by some countries, and called on the international community to distinguish UNRWA as a United Nations agency from the few staff members of the agency who had been alleged.

Lazzarini said UNRWA remained committed to meeting the humanitarian needs of Palestinian civilians. (Reporter Zhao Yuanfang).
