My name is Xiao Miao, and I am a post-90s generation born in Chengdu. When I was 18 years old, I was in high school and learned about the writer Sanmao from my classmates, which led to my dream of going to Africa one day.
After graduating from university, I worked in a state-owned enterprise. The "iron rice bowl" is the envy of many people, but for me, I just want to escape as soon as possible because I want to pursue my ideal life.
In the end, through my hard work, I left the state-owned enterprise and came to the wild land that many people remember - Africa. Not only did I walk leopards in Africa, attend weddings with locals, but I also visited the Sahara Desert, which I dreamed of since I was 18 years old.
Meimei**).
I was born in Chengdu 29 years ago. My parents divorced when I was four years old, and I lived with my father. When I was 12 years old, my father remarried, but the marriage lasted only three years before it ended. When I was 16 years old, my father gave me a complete family again. This time, the stepmother brought a younger sister over.
Although the family is reorganized, my home education is more traditional, and I have been going to school step by step since I was a child.
When I was 18 years old, I was in high school, and my table mate told me the story of Sanmao, a female writer, and I was attracted to it at that time. As I got to know Sanmao better, I felt that the desert was magical in her writing. At that time, the seeds of longing for the Sahara were planted in my heart.
Although I feel that the Sahara is far away, I know that one day I will definitely go, and that day will definitely come.
Because of the heavy academic load in high school, I didn't have time to read all of Sanmao's books in depth until college. As soon as I read it, I was hooked, and I was completely immersed in the book.
I admire Sanmao's understanding of life, and her outlook on life inspires my yearning for the world and my desire for freedom. It is because of Sanmao's influence that whenever I encounter something that I am not understood and tolerated as an adult, I will encourage myself to be a brave girl.
In college, my finance major was also arranged for me by my family. Whatever major they think is good, they will arrange it for me; If they think the job is good, they will arrange it for me. But never took my feelings into account.
Since I was a child, I have a lively and outgoing personality, I like new things, and I like to explore the world. I don't have much interest in accounting, which is a more serious and meticulous and rigid profession.
But at that time, I was still a student, and I didn't plan for the future, so I went to school and worked according to my family's arrangement, so my academic performance was not satisfactory.

After graduating from university, I entered a state-owned enterprise as a financial worker under the arrangement of my family. A lot of people envy me for having such a stable job, but I don't like it very much. I've always loved to play and make friends since I was a kid, and I especially hate living a routine life.
In state-owned enterprises, daily work is step-by-step and monotonous. It was as if I was being pressed against a big rock in my heart, and I felt like I was bound by an invisible rope. So on the first day of entering the state-owned enterprise, I made a plan to leave.
Some people may ask: if you don't like it so much, why don't you leave right away? First, because I first entered the society, I didn't understand anything, let alone the division of occupations in society; Second, I wanted to be a tour guide at that time, but my family didn't allow me to pursue this profession, and in their eyes, a tour guide was not a proper job.

For these two reasons, I decided to work in a state-owned enterprise for the time being. But I knew that my life was heading, so I kept preparing for leaving.
In the following years, on the premise of doing my own job well, in order to make more money, I set up a stall, did a side job, and used my profession to do part-time work, just so that I could leave the state-owned enterprise early.
In 2021, I had a certain amount of material accumulation, and I was finally able to leave that state-owned enterprise. The day I left, I was as happy as a caged bird that was finally free to fly in the sky.
I also posted this incident online, and netizens had mixed reviews of me. Before 2021, I would have been affected by negative comments, but as I grew older, I gradually understood:
People who have the same three views, they don't need to say too much, and the other party will agree. People with different views, no matter how they explain, even if they quarrel so red-faced, it will not help.
And I believe that the boat of my life should be helmed by myself, and should not be influenced by anyone.
Me and my sisters in Africa).
That's why when faced with different opinions, I always take them with a calm attitude. Even if you don't agree with them, don't refute them.
After I left my job, it wasn't interesting to stay at home, and I thought that I had a cousin in Shanghai, so I decided to go to Shanghai to find my cousin. It was during this trip to Shanghai that I chose to come to Africa and truly live the life I wanted.
In June 2021, I got a sales job in Shanghai. Two months later, I met a guy in a group who, like me, is a fun-loving person who likes to see the outside world.
From our chat, we learned that there are also expatriate jobs in Africa. He had just returned to China after he had been sent to Africa. He told me a lot about working in Africa and his daily life in Africa.
I was intrigued that expatriates could work abroad, play outside of work, earn money and travel, kill two birds with one stone. Immediately, I decided that I would also do the assignment work.
Attend the wedding of an African friend).
I decided to act immediately, and through consultation and understanding, I was finally able to go abroad. I chose Africa because going to Africa would fulfill my dream of going to the Sahara Desert in high school. My first expatriate country was Djibouti. Djibouti is a small country with a population of only 900,000.
On the 30th day of Djibouti, I was walking on the street and was robbed of my mobile phone in broad daylight. I lost my phone, I was sad, but sadness didn't help, so I persuaded myself to face it calmly.
Later, I went to Ethiopia, and I also encountered work pressure, business collection and other troubles, and I also adjusted my mentality.

Because I don't think anyone's life is smooth sailing, so we have to learn to look down and look away. I lost my phone, buy another one. When I was frustrated at work, I tried my best to communicate and coordinate with the customer. When I'm resting, I just relax and have fun.
I also learned this positive and optimistic attitude from Africans. Africans are all optimists, although their lives are not rich, but they all have a passionate and happy heart. As long as the ** sounds, they dance unconsciously, and all the unhappiness and pressure in life disappear without a trace with the ** and dancing posture.
When I was depressed, my African friends not only infected me with their optimism, but also advised me: Don't worry, it's okay. Don't worry.
In addition to optimism, Africans are particularly self-confident. Each of them will appreciate themselves and the shining points of others, and will not feel inferior because of external factors such as appearance, job position, etc.

For example, the female employees of our company are very fond of taking pictures. Usually when we go out to run errands, we go to the café to sit down when we are tired, and with such a short period of effort, they can also ** for a long time, and they are not afraid of others looking at them. They think they're beautiful.
In the process of getting along with my colleagues, I will cook Sichuan food for them. Cooking is my hobby and my specialty.
Later, when I was working in Ethiopia, I was the chef and waiter every time we entertained customers.
When I was in Zambia, I cooked Chinese food for my colleagues when I had nothing to do. After tasting it, colleagues will show a very satisfied look on their faces and are full of praise. This made my inner happiness burst immediately. We're having a lot of fun together. It made my life in Africa less boring.
Outside of work, I also travel everywhere. There is a park in Zambia with leopards. This leopard is not just for visitors to look at outside the cage, tourists can also walk the leopard in the park like a dog.
For someone like me who likes to try new things since I was a child, walking a cheetah is a must-have experience. It's false to say I'm not afraid, but my personality dictates that I have to overcome my fears. When you actually lead the leopard to walk the corner, it is not as scary as you imagined, and this experience feels amazing.
In Africa, I finally visited the Sahara Desert, which runs across the northern part of the continent, fulfilling my dream when I was 18 years old.
African wedding customs are also something I've always wanted to know about, and the opportunity came quickly. I was fortunate enough to attend an African friend's wedding, which made me feel the difference between African weddings and Chinese weddings.
Me and my African friends).
Because they are Orthodox, there are many ceremonies to be performed on the wedding day of the two couples. They saw all of them standing there with a white candle in their hands, their eyes closed, and the priest chanting in front of them.
In the morning, the man did the ceremony at home, about two hours, and then took pictures after the ceremony. When everything was done, everyone went to pick up the bride. When I arrived at the woman's house, there was a ceremony, which was the same as the man's house, which was almost two hours.
During this process, both men and women will have food at home, and guests can eat if they are hungry. After the ceremonies at home on both sides were over, everyone went to the hotel.
I'm traveling in Africa).
Chinese wedding customs are that after the couple arrives at the hotel, a ceremony is held, and the guests can eat and drink, which is not the case in Africa. After arriving at the hotel, the newlyweds have to do a ceremony, which is almost two hours. After the ceremony is completed, the guests can dine.
Moreover, the wedding banquet in Africa is a buffet, which is different from that in China.
After the meal, the highlight of the wedding was ushered in - dancing. Everyone dances together in many circles from the inside to the outside. Everyone was jumping and playing until the wee hours of the morning. During the dance, everyone was very self-indulgent, and no one felt embarrassed.
In Africa, I also have some different ideas about the concept of saving money than I have in China. Personally, I don't recommend saving all your money or spending it all, spending it on things you feel are worthwhile.
I'm in the Sahara).
For example, when I go on a trip and have new experiences, the happiness that this brings me is far from being replaced by money, so at this time, I will take out part of my salary to travel and increase my knowledge.
In terms of items, because the joy it brings me is far less than traveling, I don't shop a lot, and I have a strong sense of environmental protection, and having more clothes is not only a waste of money, but also a waste of resources.
I love Africa and plan to open a small restaurant here in the future, specializing in Sichuan cuisine. When I have accumulated enough money, I will continue to travel to more places, and then bring back new things and share them with more people.
I want to use my personal experience to tell all girls to live your own life and live it on your own terms. Don't feel that you can't do it, and don't hesitate to retreat because of some negation and opposition, learning to live a mentally independent life will really be much happier, so you should be brave enough to experience things that you have not experienced.
