Before the "Shen 17" mission, astronaut Tang Hongbo carried out the "Shen 12" manned mission from June to September 2021 as the No. 03 astronaut, with a mission duration of 92 days, 4 hours and 8 minutes. By the deadline, Tang Hongbo's total flight time had exceeded 193 days, surpassing astronaut Fei Junlong and rising to the fifth place among Chinese astronauts. Fei Junlong has carried out two flight missions, "Shen VI" and "Shen 15", with a total flight time of 191 days, 12 hours and 8 minutes.
At present, the top four astronauts in the total flight time of Chinese astronauts are Chen Dong (total flight time of 214 days, 15 hours and 54 minutes), Jing Haipeng (201 days, 17 hours and 4 minutes), Wang Yaping (197 days), and Liu Yang (195 days and 53 minutes). By mid-February, astronaut Tang Hongbo will become the third Chinese astronaut to surpass 200 days in total, and by late February, Tang Hongbo will be China's longest-flying astronaut.
In six days, the "Shen 17" crew will usher in the Year of the Dragon in the Chinese lunar calendar, becoming the third Chinese astronaut crew to be in orbit after the "Shen 13" and "Shen 15" crews. In the new year, the three crew members will carry out a large number of scientific experiments and technical tests, a number of astronaut crew out-of-cabin activities and application payload out-of-cabin missions, and will also carry out the latest "Tiangong Classroom" science popularization activities.
