As the Qualcomm Snapdragon mobile SoC continues to evolve, its latest generation of Snapdragon 8 Gen3 is already quite close to Apple's A17 Pro in terms of performance. According to Geekbench's benchmark data, the gap between the two in multi-core performance is rapidly narrowing.

According to some data, Apple's upcoming A18 Pro has a single-core and multi-core score of about 3500 and 8200 points in Geekbench 6. However, it's worth noting that this 3500 single-core score could be a running score result that exceeds expectations. In real-world testing, the iPhone 15 Pro averaged 2906 points for single-core and 7231 points for multi-core in Geekbench 6. This data gives us an approximate level of performance for Apple's new generation of chips.

At the same time, information about the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4's score has been circulating on the Internet. Although it has not yet been confirmed, we can get some interesting glimpses from it. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is said to have scored 2845 points in the single-core test, which is already very close to the level of the Apple A17 Pro. In the multi-core test, it scored a whopping 10,628 points, which is even on par with the M3 chip in Apple's MacBook.

It is understood that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is expected to be manufactured using TSMC's 3nm process and adopt a pure large-core design of "2 + 6". In contrast, Apple's A18 Pro is likely to continue with a 6-core CPU design, including four efficiency cores. This may explain why, in terms of multi-core performance, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is able to outperform Apple's new chips.

In addition, compared to the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra's performance in Geekbench 6, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 improves multi-threaded performance by about 46%, while also achieving a significant improvement in single-core performance. These improvements will undoubtedly make Qualcomm more competitive in the next-generation mobile SoC market.
