Late last year, Israel carried out a sustained violent crackdown in the Gaza Strip, resulting in a large number of innocent civilian deaths and injuries. This cruel act has aroused strong indignation in South Africa. South Africa has filed a complaint with the International Court of Justice at the United Nations, accusing Israel of committing "genocide" in Gaza.
The day before the International Day of Remembrance, the International Court of Justice of the United Nations issued an urgent ruling demanding that Israel cease all acts that could lead to genocide and improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza. The ruling was supported by a number of international organizations and countries, including the European Union, Iran, Qatar, Turkey, Spain, Ireland, Saudi Arabia, and others.
Some may argue that this ruling has little practical effect, since the UN International Court of Justice has no enforcement powers, and Israel and the United States will not heed it.
However, I believe that this ruling is of great significance, because it is a strong signal from South Africa to Western hegemony with its law, and it is also the opening of a new battlefield outside the Middle East.
First, South Africa's prosecution of Israel is itself full of irony. We've talked about it in the show before, and I'll briefly mention it here.
After the end of World War II, in order to prevent the recurrence of the "great **" similar to the German Nazi against the Jews, the United Nations formulated the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide. This convention was originally created to protect Israel. Now, however, South Africa is using this convention to denounce Israel's crimes. How ironic this is.
Second, this time it is a formal international court of justice, not a "pheasant court" created by the West for its own selfish interests. What's even more interesting is that last year, these "pheasant courts" also self-righteously issued arrest warrants for Russian ** Putin. If the United States really does not take the formal international court of justice in its eyes this time, it will be tantamount to slapping itself in the face and ruining the reputation of those "pheasant courts".
Finally, when the West interferes in the internal affairs of developing countries, it always likes to wave the banner of "democracy, freedom, human rights" and so on. Now, however, South Africa has prosecuted Israel directly on the grounds that it had committed "genocide". This gives the West two choices: either continue to indulge Israel and expose its hypocrisy, or stand on the side of justice and draw a line with Israel.
In short, this time South Africa has used the law to launch a powerful counterattack against Israel, which, in my opinion, is outside the Middle East, opening a new battlefield. Moreover, more and more countries have already stood on the side of justice and are ready to challenge the hegemon. I believe that the era of the West's manipulation of morality will come to an end!
