A comet, nicknamed the "Demon Comet", is heading towards Earth and will come to its closest approach to Earth in early June, providing a rare opportunity for astronomy enthusiasts.

Diagram. The comet is named 12p Pons-Brooks, and it has an observed "angle", hence the name "Demon Comet". Experts believe that this may be a "virtual corner" formed by gas and dust.

12P Pons-Brooks was discovered in 1812 and named in 1883 as a Halley-type comet with an orbital period of 71 years. It is one of the longest and brightest comets known and is also thought to be the parent body of the December Draconids.

This "demon comet", which is 3 times larger than Mount Everest, is still a "cold volcano" and often occurs**. Its last two times** took place in July and October 2023, and the "Demon Horn" was formed as a result.

Experts say the comet will make its closest approach to Earth on June 2, at a distance of about 14.4 billion miles, even at its closest proximity**, will have little to no danger or impact on the planet. This is a rare opportunity for astronomers to observe, and it is even possible to observe directly with the naked eye.
