On January 31, Changsha, Hunan Province, is getting closer and closer to the Lunar New Year. During the Spring Festival of the Year of the Dragon, Liu Wenge, the 60-year-old stationmaster of the Changsha Train Depot of the Guangzhou Railway Group, will welcome the New Year at his post. This is the eighth consecutive year that he has been on the job for the Spring Festival, and it will also be the last Spring Festival before he retires.

To the north of Changsha and near the Liuyang River, Simaochong Station is under the jurisdiction of Changsha Railway Depot of China Railway Guangzhou Bureau Group, and was established as a fourth-class station in 1961. "It's the last Spring Festival on the job, and I'm really reluctant. Looking at the speeding train, Liu Wenge's eyes were shining.

The last one on the job is the Spring Festival, and he wants to cook a "New Year's dinner" for his colleagues

As a railroad man, Liu Wenge said, "There is no concept of the Chinese New Year, and the mission is to ensure that every train can pass through the station safely." ”

On January 31, Changsha was filled with fog. Tucked away in the bustling city, this station is little known. Liu Xiaoyu, a citizen of Changsha who is over 80 years old, said, "I am an old man here and have witnessed the growth of this station. As she spoke, she pointed to the alley next to the bus stop in Deya Village, Kaifu District.

Along the slope, more than 20 meters, surrounded by low old brick houses and bustling stalls, Simaochong Station entered the sight of Sanxiang *** reporters.

Although there is no rush of travelers, it plays an important role in the journey of travelers from the north to the south. It is understood that the station does not handle passenger and freight business, and is mainly responsible for the task of receiving and sending trains to and from the station. Every day, more than 300 buses pass by the city's small station. It is one of the busiest stations on the Beijing-Guangzhou Main Line.

Liu Wenge, who has been working on the railroad since 1987, will retire in August this year. Since 2015, he has served as the station manager of Simaochong Station, and he has not had a hot New Year's meal with his family, and this year is no different. Liu Wenge said: From the 30th day of the Chinese New Year's Eve to the third day of the first lunar month, he was on duty.

He is also the "senior nanny" in the station in everyone's eyes. "As a station manager, you not only have to fulfill your duties, but also take care of the life, emotions and family situations of the station employees. Liu Wenge said with a smile that the chef in the station took leave on the first day of the Lunar New Year, and he wanted to cook a "New Year's dinner" for his colleagues.

For 38 years, he has been on the job for 42 consecutive days

Running parallel to the railroad tracks is his daily routine.

At around 10 o'clock on January 31, Liu Wenge patrolled the line along the railroad tracks as usual. As soon as he got to the tracks, he looked radiant. "Haha, the conditions are reversed**, near the railroad tracks, you must see all directions and listen to the four roads. A little negligence can make a big mistake. He said.

We are here on the busy section of the Beijing-Guangzhou Railway Main Line, with more than 300 round-trip trains on weekdays, and there will be more during the Spring Festival. Liu Wenge told reporters that the frequency of trains means that the inspection should be more detailed for himself.

On both sides of the tracks, the walls and barbed wire need to be carefully checked. Are there cracks in the walls, holes in the barbed wire, and are there any obstacles that affect the movement of the train? This requires Liu Wenge to observe carefully day after day.

After 38 years on the job, he put aside his personal vacations and family reunions to shoulder the responsibility and mission. In 2021, the epidemic has brought unprecedented challenges to the station. When the deputy stationmaster had no one to replace him on sick leave, Liu Wenge stepped forward and worked for 42 consecutive days.

Falling asleep for a long time with the roar of the train and the friction of the railroad tracks has become a habit of Liu Wenge. He said it was more comfortable to sleep in the duty room than at home. A generation of old railroadmen is about to say goodbye to the work stage, but the story of the efforts to ensure the safety and smooth flow of railway transportation by the tracks continues.
