Today is the first day of the new semester, and the new campus of Dongtan Senior High School of Shanghai Experimental School was officially opened, which is also the 12th school of the listed education group. After the opening ceremony of the new school, all the teachers and students of SIIC Dongtan High School held the opening ceremony of the new semester. The successful opening of the new campus will further expand the influence of high-quality educational resources and improve the overall development level of high schools in Chongming District.
The reporter learned from the Chongming District Education Bureau that the new campus of SIIC Dongtan High School is located in Chenjia Town, Chongming District, covering an area of 100 acres, with a total construction area of 38,400 square meters, and 10 main buildings such as teaching buildings, learning centers, science buildings, liberal arts buildings, gymnasiums, lecture halls, etc., equipped with high-end laboratories for physical and chemical biology, audio-visual classrooms, STEM maker spaces, constant temperature swimming pools and student theaters and other educational and teaching spaces.
In November 2020, in order to create a first-class education that matches the construction of a world-class ecological island and realize the radiation promotion and synthetic reconstruction of high-quality educational resource brands, the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, Shanghai Normal University and Chongming District jointly established Dongtan Senior High School, a Shanghai Experimental School, in Chenjia Town, Chongming District, with the group school-running model of "famous school + new school".
SIIC sent Ms. Yuan Wanping, the director of the high school department, to serve as the executive principal of the new school. On January 4, 2022, the school project was officially launched. In September 2022, the first batch of new students officially enrolled.
What kind of educational space can cultivate future-oriented innovative talents? How should a new school, which opens in 2024, promote students to transform from learners to creators in line with the needs of education?
Subverting the imagination of traditional schools, the school connects the learning center, teaching building, laboratory building and lecture hall through corridors, so that the whole school forms a complete interconnected and open organic teaching complex. The Learning Center, which integrates functions such as library, self-directed learning, open discussion, and hierarchical teaching, is the core building of the campus that connects the teaching space. In terms of space, bright indoor sunlight, open scenery outside the window and open bookshelves together give the learning environment a humanistic, ecological and artistic character. In terms of connotation, the in-depth integration of diversified curriculum resources and information technology ensures the practice of diverse learning methods, and expands the closed classroom into a spatial continuum from formal to informal learning.
The new campus creates a "classroom without walls", with only tables and chairs that are easy to move and combine, and an open space for teachers and students to discuss.
