In recent years, in order to meet the viewing needs of the general public, tourists and photography enthusiasts, the Hangzhou West Lake Water Management Office has been extending the retention time of the West Lake remnants as much as possible.
However, in order to protect the water quality of the West Lake, reduce the impact of lotus drying on the water body of the West Lake, and also to make the West Lake lotus bloom better in the new year, generally after the Lunar New Year every year, the management office will harvest and clean up the residual lotus in each lotus area one by one.
On February 24, when the morning temperature was only 3 and the sky was drizzling, several lotus maintenance workers wearing green waterproof overalls braved the rain to enter the lotus area and began to harvest the remnants of the West Lake.
There are about 150 acres of lotus flowers in West Lake, which began to be harvested on February 19, and it is expected that all the residual lotus will be cleaned up in about two weeks.

This year, on the basis of the original transverse blades, a row of longitudinal blades has also been added, this machine can go deep into the water 15 cm, the cutting speed is fast, the efficiency is high, and the underwater part of the incision is neat, which is one-third more efficient than the previous manual cutting.
The main purpose of cleaning up the residual lotus is to better protect the lotus flowers in the West Lake, and also to better protect the water quality of the West Lake, because the decay of the lotus leaves will affect the water quality.
