For the biggest ** in Chinese history, people should be familiar with it. If you have the opportunity to ask He Shen two questions, I believe the first question most people ask is, why does Ji Xiaolan always go against you? And the second question is, Qianlong obviously knows that you **, why didn't he deal with you? The answer to the first question, Ji Xiaolan is 26 years older than He Shen, they are not hostile like film and television dramas, but can be called year-old friends, and Ji Xiaolan often gives advice to He Shen. The answer to the second question, in Qianlong's later years, fell into a lonely state of mind that an old emperor should have, and the appearance of He Shen just made up for the emperor's material and spiritual needs. Although the film and television drama is fictional, one line said by Qianlong is indeed true: The Manchu Dynasty is civil and military, but He Shen alone can be called my friend, and you Ji Xiaolan (actually referring to the rest of the **) are only divided into monarchs and ministers in this life.
In the autumn of the fortieth year of Qianlong (1775), the 64-year-old Qianlong casually chatted with the new guards on horseback during the autumn tour. This personable guard is the 26-year-old He Shen, Niu Hulu, who has just been selected as the guard of the Qianqing Gate. Graceful, fluent and decent, respectful and calm attitude and Shen immediately attracted the interest of the old emperor, and Shen said that he was eighteen years old to participate in the experience of the township examination, although he did not win, but he actually wrote his own article to the emperor word for word, the emperor was greatly surprised, since then like this young and capable young man, from sending simple tasks to He Shen, to entrusting important tasks, and Shen's performance has always exceeded the emperor's expectations. A year later, within three months, He Shen climbed all the way to the Minister of Military Aircraft and Prime Minister of the Interior.
He Shen is not a wine bag and a rice bag, he really deserves the word talented. He is proficient in Manchu, Chinese, Mongolian, and Tibetan languages, and is proficient in the subset of scripture and history, writing kung fu, horseback riding and archery. In particular, He Shen is not a dead reader, he has a very wide range of interests, he knows everything about piano, chess, calligraphy and painting, and the poems he writes are a must. What makes Qianlong feel even more comfortable is that He Shen's EQ is higher than his IQ, and getting along with others can always make the other party feel happy. And He Shen is still a beautiful man, without the bookish anger of ordinary scholars. Never used Qianlong's nonsense, He Shen could get the emperor's thoughts, solve all kinds of emergencies with ease, and even Jiaqing, who was the final leader of him, had to admit that he was "shrewd and agile".
And Qianlong needed a minister like He Shen, and it was also a chance encounter between these two monarchs and ministers arranged by history. In his later years, the emperor had to solve two contradictions, the first was the selfishness that had to monopolize power and the deteriorating body, and the second contradiction was the emperor's ever-expanding materialism and promise of "never giving more". To put it bluntly, a contradictory solution is for the emperor to find a handy crutch, which is the emperor's head but can be the emperor's shadow on its own. The second contradictory solution is to find a way to make money, but not to move the promise made by the ancestors. And the emergence of Heshen satisfies these two solutions at once.
The first question has been mentioned above, and the answer to the second question is that He Shen has a natural business acumen, which is incomparable to the clumsy financial management of traditional scholars. The concept of wealth in traditional society is forbidden, and the first thing you can do when you have money is to buy real estate, and you can feel at ease when you fix your assets. On the contrary, he is more interested in cash. In the fifty-seventh year of Qianlong (1792), He Shen in his later years promised to help others fight lawsuits, promising to give him 60 acres of land or 10,000 taels**, and He Shen asked for **. Only a small part of Heshen's wealth has purchased real estate, and most of it has been invested in finance, real estate, mining, logistics, medicine, commerce and other industries. In Beijing, he has 12 pawn shops. It operates printing shops, account offices, porcelain shops, medicine shops, antique shops, bow and arrow shops, grain stores, hotels, etc., and also owns 80 large carriages and is engaged in logistics. As long as there is an industry that can make quick money, Heshen has participated and dared to participate. Although He Shen's money came from the wrong way, his vision was indeed outstanding, far beyond everyone at that time.
He Shen has a strong spirit of contract, and in the face of money, he has always been a brother who settles accounts. His uncle borrowed his money, and he even forced his uncle to write him an IOU and add interest. When his uncle died soon after, he did not write off the debt because of family affection, but asked his uncle's son to pay it back. It was this kind of management talent that after Qianlong gave He Shen the steps, his talent was quickly reminded and attracted the attention of the emperor. Part-time Minister of the Interior, in fact, is to make money for the emperor. Sure enough, the Ministry of Internal Affairs immediately turned a profit and a surplus appeared. Since then, almost all departments related to finance have come under Heshen's hands. And he has also served as the head of the household department, the secretary of the book, and the management of the three libraries of the household department. For Qianlong, He Shen is a magician, he can make money.
On the morning of the eighteenth day of the first month of the fourth year of Jiaqing (1799), the emperor sent a piece of white silk and ordered He Shen to commit suicide. Before leaving, He Shen wrote a poem: Fifty years of dreams are true, and now I will give up Xie Hongchen. He is full of water and dragons, and he recognizes cigarettes as the back. The days of the past fifty years have been like a dream, and today I am going to go back, but it doesn't matter, after I am reincarnated, I will control the emperor, you can see clearly, that is contemptible. Before he died, he could write such a Zen poem, which shows that he is a person with depth, understanding, and concentration. In the past dynasties, the death of He Shen should be regarded as the most calm and elegant one. As the largest **, his overall positioning should be a collection of politicians, economic bureaucrats, poets, scholars, and art connoisseurs. By the way, he was also a very good diplomat.
