For the festival of the 13th day of the first lunar month, fishermen on the island start making sea lanterns every year after the fifth day of the first lunar month. When night falls on the 13th day of the first lunar month, fishermen will come to the beach and put their handmade sea lanterns into the sea to pray for a safe and auspicious new year.
In Qianmiao Village, Wangjiadao Town, Zhuanghe City, fishermen came to the beach with sea lanterns and offerings, and according to the tide and wind direction, they put the lit sea lanterns into the sea to pray for good weather and fish and shrimp in the new year. Fishermen from Shicheng Island, Heidao and other places in Zhuanghe City also come to the beach in the evening to worship the sea god and pray for a good harvest in the New Year. According to incomplete statistics, this year, the island fishermen in Zhuanghe City put sea lanterns on their own boats and held them by the seaside, and Wangjiadao Town Nanhai, Qianhai, Houhai, wharf, Shanxi and other large and small harbors have the light and shadow of sea lanterns, and the number of participants is about 2,000 people.
In Black Rock Reef Park, about 100 beautifully crafted sea lanterns are filled with hope and blessings and sail out into the blue expanse of the sea against the backdrop of the stars. The lights and shadows of the water reflect each other, and people pray for a full cabin of fish and shrimp, good wind and rain, and happiness and health. Hosted by the Dalian Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism and undertaken by the Dalian Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Center, the lantern release event attracted many citizens to participate.
