In the fierce competition at WTA 1000 Dubai, No. 6 seed Zheng Qinwen came into action with an injury and defeated qualifier Nao Hibino with a tenacious performance of 5-7 6-2 6-2 to secure a place in the round of 16. Next, she will face Potapova, who has held a 2-1 lead in the past meeting between the two. This victory undoubtedly added confidence to Zheng Qinwen's next matches.
In the other match, eighth seed Sakkari avenged last year's defeat in San Diego 6-2 6-4 to avenge last year's defeat in San Diego and end a recent three-game singles losing streak.
