At CES 2024, Micron presented the Crucial T700 8TB, a concept product with the best performing SSD at the moment. The Crucial T700 8TB combines four separate T700 2TB SSDs in a RAID array and is mounted on a standard AIC card that is cooled by FRORE Systems' AirJet Mini cooling technology.
The T700 8TB has sequential read and write speeds of up to 45 GB s and 42 GB s, respectively, with sustained speeds of 40 GB s. In Micron's demo, we witnessed the drive easily deliver a constant 42 Gbs speed, which included running the IOMometer benchmark. As we all know, heat has always been PCIe 50 SSD's worst enemy, so these drives are equipped with bulky and sometimes active coolers to keep them cool. Running four T700 drives at the same time and putting pressure on them creates a considerable amount of heat, but that's exactly what Fore Systems' AirJet Mini takes into account in this equation.
The AirJet Mini is an innovative solid-state active cooling solution that emits up to 2125w of heat. According to Frere Systems, the AirJet Mini consumes only 1W of power, making it an excellent cooling solution for compact devices such as laptops, SSDs, or mini PCs. The AirJet Mini cooler can keep the T700's operating temperature within a reasonable range during full load. Micron recorded two drivers at 76 degrees Celsius and one at 78 degrees Celsius. This is very impressive, as our tests have shown that while the T700 has an average power of 714w, but the drive can be pulled up to 11 when it reaches its limit89w。
The Crucial T700 8TB revolves around an improved Gigabyte AORUS Gen5 AIC adapter that can accommodate up to four PCIe 50 SSDs provide the case. The adapter achieves transfer speeds of up to 60 Gbs, so Crucial's T700 quad SSD is still far from saturating the interface. The AirJet Mini is equipped with a separate module that requires four modules, one for cooling each T700 drive. The AirJet Mini sits on a copper heatsink mounted on an SSD.
If you need high-speed storage for your PC but lack the M. you need for a landscape or quad RAID2 port counts, which is a great solution. Micron calculates that the T700 8TB represents a 40% reduction in PCIe card size. Performance isn't the only attraction of the T700 8TB; The silent operation of the hard drive is equally appealing. FRORE Systems' AirJet Mini Thermal Cooler eliminates the need for a noisy cooling fan. If you look at the original AORUS Gen5 AIC adapter, it has a 5cm blower model fan that actively cools the four SSDs.
Unfortunately, Micron has yet to promise to release an SSD with AirJet Mini cooling. Concept products may or may not enter the retail market.
