After Jurgen Klopp announced that he would be leaving the club at the end of the season, Virgil van Dijk has expressed doubts about his future at Liverpool.
Asked if he thought he would be part of the club after Klopp left, Van Dijk said: "It's a big question – I don't know. The club will face a difficult task of changing the manager, which is well known. Not only will the manager be changed, but the staff will be changed, and there will be a lot of things that will change. ”
So the club has a big task on hand and I'm curious which direction it's going to go. But when this is announced, we will see what happens to us, and I can't reveal too much
The Dutch international, who joined Liverpool in 2018, was a stalwart of the Jurgen Klopp era, helping the club win the 2019 Champions League and the 2020 Premier League, the club's first league title in 30 years.
He also won the FA Cup and Carabao Cup in 2022 and was appointed club captain after Jordan Henderson's move to the Saudi league last summer.
Like Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk has only 18 months left on his contract, but says his focus remains on bringing Jurgen Klopp a trophy-filled farewell game this season.
Van Dijk said: ".Obviously, this will be the end of the Jurgen Klopp era. I'm glad I'm still a part of it, that's why I don't like to talk about it, I'm still a part of it
That's my main focus, and we'll see at the end of the season. Hopefully we can achieve the success that we all dream of and strive for every day, and at that point there may be more clarification on what the club wants in the future, we'll see. ”
Liverpool continued their contention for four trophies this season with a 5-2 win over Norwich City in Sunday's FA Cup tie. They sit top of the Premier League, five points ahead of second-placed Manchester City, and will face Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final on 25 February.
Liverpool can compete for the title on the fourth tier this season, and will they be able to secure a second, triple or even quadruple to see off Jurgen Klopp at the end of the season? Let's wait and see!
