Celebrate the New Year in the Museum, New Exhibition of the Year of the Dragon丨Exploring the Ocean,

Mondo Culture Updated on 2024-02-09

The earth, also known as the "blue planet", comes from the vast and deep ocean on this planet, which is the cradle of the origin of life, the hometown of wind and rain, and the home of many living beings.

Compared to the land, the vastness of the ocean is infinitely fascinating, but at the same time intimidating.

As the largest ecosystem on Earth, the ocean covers an area of about 3600 million square kilometers, covering 71% of the earth's surface, it contains hundreds of thousands of marine organisms with infinite power, provides 90% of the earth's oxygen content, buries extremely rich natural resources, links seven continents, and promotes global and economic development.

The fate of the sea and humanity is closely linked, how can we keep this blue land?

Explore the ocean

New exhibition for the Year of the Dragon

—Marine Science Theme Exhibition—

On the occasion of the Spring Festival of the Year of the Dragon in 2024, the Chongqing Museum of Natural History will launch the first large-scale marine science exhibition in Chongqing for a wide audience"Exploring the Ocean - Marine Theme Science Exhibition".

The exhibition takes the exploration of the secrets of the ocean as a clue, and introduces the composition of the marine ecosystem, marine biodiversity, China's ocean, and the relationship between man and the ocean to the audience through exquisite science introduction, realistic scene restoration, a large number of marine animal and plant specimens, and a huge multi-system system.

The exhibition is divided into four sections: "The Same Ocean", "Life on the Sea", "China's Sea" and "Man and the Ocean", where you can see not only the specimen of small mackerel whales more than 6 meters long, but also all the species of sea turtles in China at the same time. While getting to know many rare specimens of marine life, you can also understand the indissoluble bond between Chongqing, an inland city far from the sea, and the sea, and satisfy the curiosity of inland city audiences about the boundless sea.

Aspect 1:

The large exhibition hall and many rare exhibits are enjoyable to see at one time

The exhibition selects more than 600 exhibits and unveils the mystery of the blue world in an exhibition space of more than 1,600 square meters, bringing the audience a fantastic and unforgettable immersive viewing experience. Maybe you have been on the beach, heard the sound of the waves, saw the magnificent scene of the sea and the sky, and touched the fine sand on the beach, but this will be the first time you have seen so many rare species closely related to the ocean in real life, not only colorful corals, shells of different shapes, but also lively and cute penguins, cute sea lions, seals and a variety of seabirds, sea fish, etc., a variety of animal and plant specimens are numerous, during the Spring Festival of the Year of the Dragon, bring you a marine theme science feast.

Aspect 2:

Immerse yourself in the marine ecosystem

It is well known that coral reef and mangrove ecosystems have a very important role in the ocean.

Coral reef ecosystems are among the most biodiverse on the planet and are known as the "rainforests of the ocean". They are mainly made up of corals, algae, fish, shellfish, and other invertebrates, forming a complex and unique ecological network. Coral reefs are home to many species, including thousands of species of fish, shellfish, crustaceans, and other invertebrates. These organisms play different roles in the coral reef ecosystem, working together to maintain the ecological balance.

The mangrove ecosystem is an ecological function continuum composed of mangrove plants growing on tropical coastal mudflats and their surrounding environment. This ecosystem not only includes mangrove plants and semi-mangrove plants, associated plants, animals, microorganisms and other factors, but also is affected by abiotic factors such as sunlight, water and soil. Mangrove ecosystems are among the most productive and biodiverse ecosystems in the world. Here, in addition to the intertwined trees, you can also see a variety of water birds and fish, benthic invertebrates, insects, amphibians, reptiles, etc., mangroves play an important role in purifying seawater, preventing wind and waves, sequestering carbon and storing carbon, maintaining biodiversity, etc., and also have the reputation of "coastal guard" and "marine green lung".

Come and experience it in the exhibition hall.

Aspect 3:

The five major sea turtle species in our country can be seen at a glance

In the vast sea area of China, five species of sea turtles have been recorded, namely green sea turtles, loggerhead sea turtles (loggerhead turtles), hawksbill turtles, leech turtles and leatherback turtles, all of which are listed as national protected animals. In the "Exploring the Ocean" exhibition, these 5 species of sea turtles can be seen in the exhibition hall, come and see what kind of turtles you know.

Sea turtle populations are declining globally due to factors such as marine pollution, overfishing, and habitat destruction, so it is important to protect sea turtles and their ecosystems. In China, a series of measures have been taken to protect sea turtles, including the establishment of turtle sanctuaries, and the prohibition of illegal fishing and sale of sea turtles and their products.

Aspect 4:

Chongqing used to be also a sea, and here is evidence

For hundreds of millions of years, the changes of sea and land and the development of rivers caused by strong orogeny have created the peculiar landscape of mountains and rivers in Chongqing today, and have given birth to rich product resources. Chongqing has many traces of ancient times. According to scientists, research has found that in 2The main city of Chongqing 500 million years ago was still an ocean. to about 2400 million years ago, in the late Early Triassic period, Chongqing changed from a marine environment to a marine lagoon environment. And about 2 years agoIn the late Middle Triassic period of 300 million years, under the influence of the Indochinese movement, the main city was gradually elevated to land, and then after hundreds of millions of years of vicissitudes, our beautiful home was gradually formed under the magic of nature.

The exhibition selects dozens of fossils of marine organisms found in Chongqing, showing the connection between Chongqing and the ocean from the perspective of paleontological science.

About the exhibition

Unit 1 The Same Ocean.

The "secrets" of the ocean are told to the audience from many aspects, such as the depth of the ocean, the composition of the seawater, the change of color, and the form of the boundary between the sea and the land, and there are countless creatures living in this vast and mysterious sea, which together constitute a stable marine ecosystem. From "one whale falls to all life" to the marine ecological cycle, from the marine food chain to the representative species of the four oceans, from these lovely creatures, we explore the wonderful world of the ocean.

Unit 2 Life on the ocean floor.

With rich ancient and modern specimens, ** and scene restoration, it tells the evolution and development of marine life over hundreds of millions of years. As the cradle of life, the ocean is still home to millions of marine creatures, what do they look like? What are the features? Here we can appreciate the vigorous vitality of the sea and explore the rich and colorful marine biodiversity.

Unit 3 China's Seas.

As a major coastal country with more than 18,000 kilometers of coastline and about 3 million square kilometers of sea area under its jurisdiction, the exhibition focuses on China's coastal waters on the time axis, supplemented by a comprehensive display of China's sea area, seafood, marine science and technology, and deep-sea technology.

Unit 4 People and the Ocean.

Life comes from the sea, and the relationship between man and the sea is inseparable, but while enjoying the many gifts that the ocean has given to human beings, he is still suffering from the sea. What exactly have humans done? How do we live in harmony with the ocean? The exhibition is rich in examples that give early warning and advice to mankind.

Epilogue. Human beings are born to the sea, and the ocean embraces human beings;

The ocean has always been a friend of mankind, and humanity and the ocean should be built.

a continuous and harmonious mode of getting along;

Of course, there are still many secrets in the underwater world.

We need human beings to explore and enrich our understanding of the ocean by learning more about marine life;

Therefore, love the oceans, understand and protect them.
