World Coffee Case 2 How to solve the training problem with World Coffee?

Mondo Gastronomy Updated on 2024-02-01

Many readers have read the previous article "World Coffee Case 1: How to Use World Coffee in Training" and feel that it is amazing, and hope to see more cases of World Coffee.

This article shares another example of how I used World Coffee in my TTT training.

Training Topics:In-house trainers improve their teaching skills.

Cadets:Operations Manager.

According to the usual practice, I first conducted a pre-course demand survey according to the steps of the "Problem Tree Course Model", and then tailored the course content and teaching method for the enterprise on this basis (this article shares the application module of the guide tool World Coffee). Here's how:

Pre-course research

1.Trainee status

The training was scheduled for two days after the Spring Festival holiday, and many trainees were still in holiday syndrome.

2.Common questions from participants

Through the pre-course questionnaire, the common questions of the students are as follows:

How to make training help management? How can we facilitate the application of what students have learned?Design ideas

Considering that the content of the first part of the course is boring, but it covers two issues that the participants are concerned about, and the conventional teaching method is difficult to achieve the desired effect, I decided to use World Coffee in this module. This can be done by:

1.According to the habit of the Chinese, the New Year has not been completed until the fifteenth day of the first lunar month. So, I came up with the idea of the "New Year Gathering", which combined with the group competition method and set the two-day course as the "New Year Gathering Lecturer Show".

2.The first round of world coffee, with the New Year group to drive the atmosphere.

3.The second round of World Coffee started from the students' own work - management.

4.The third and summary phase of World Coffee will focus on promoting the application of what has been learned.

Preparation before class

Before the training began, I made the following preparations:

New Year group worship posters, including hand-painted version and PPT version.

2.From home with balloons, couplets, and ornaments to the training site.

3.A poster of World Coffee was hand-drawn and brought to the training site to assist in the explanation of the rules.

4.In the first round of World Coffee, please share interesting stories during the Spring Festival.

5.All of us have time reserved for visiting the gallery.

Training site

1.Training site layout

In order to arouse everyone's enthusiasm for participation, I invited the trainees to participate in the decoration of the training site. There were 6 groups in total, the first group was responsible for putting up two hand-painted posters, the second group was responsible for hanging the couplets, blessing characters and decorations I brought from home on the wall, and the other four groups used balloons to decorate.

After the first group put up the two hand-drawn posters I brought (Picture 2 and Picture 4), everyone said that the atmosphere was immediately relaxed and happy.

In such a pleasant atmosphere, the students quickly set up the venue. Let's see if the picture below is very festive

2.World Coffee Talks

1) Round 1: Share your interesting stories during the Spring Festival and one thing you want to do most in the new year. Combined with the situation of the "New Year group meeting", everyone found a lot of interesting topics from the just-ended Spring Festival, and soon created an atmosphere of free talk.

2) Round 2: Discuss your biggest problem or challenge in management

3) The third round: discuss the characteristics of the trainees, and how to make the follow-up after the training easy and effective before and during the training.

4) Summary: In view of how to promote the application of what the trainees are most concerned about, discuss and summarize from the three stages of training: before, during and after the training.

The picture below shows the world's coffee achievements.

Figure 6 Results of the World Coffee Talks.

The content in the middle of the above figure is the result of the discussion on "how to promote the application of what students have learned".

The design of this problem: first through the group discussion of World Coffee to guide thinking, then with the help of summary and in-depth combing, and finally visit the gallery to see the results, step by step to strengthen the trainees' connection and specific methods in the three stages of the training, so as to systematically solve the problem.

Bootstrapping

After everyone browsed the gallery and browsed the world's coffee production, I used ORID to guide the way, and one of the questions was: What do I find when I see these results?

Many students said: The characteristics of the students we wrote are all the bad aspects of the students, and there are no advantages.

So, I took the lead: "Our question is what are the characteristics of the students?".Characteristic is a neutral word, and if used well, it is a plus, and if it is used poorly, it is a disadvantage. So as a qualified trainer, the first thing to do is to distinguish between the characteristics and the disadvantages, and the second is to try to see the strengths of the trainees. Do you all agree?”

The students agreed.

Effects

1.Learner feedback

Feedback from the students: Through several rounds of discussions at World Coffee, I felt the strength and collective wisdom of the team, saw hope (the teacher can provide solutions to problems), and gained confidence. All of these help motivate learners to learn.

2.My takeaways

Combined with the process observation and achievement display of World Coffee, I focused on sorting out and summarizing the content of the morning course. For example:

1) 5 groups mentioned the need for understanding of the trainees before the training. That's exactly what I want to emphasize, and that's the focus of the afternoon's training. The students themselves felt that it was more effective than my preaching.

2) 5 groups mentioned the interaction in the lesson, which was the content of the next day's lesson.

Through the presentation of the results, the participants said what I wanted to talk about, and also pointed out the key modules and content of the course.

Summary

The same use of World Coffee in TTT training, the training time of the previous article is different from that of this article, and the design ideas of World Coffee are completely different in the two times. These are the two core concepts of the problem tree model: end-oriented and student-centered practical application.
