There are many temples here in the Tang Dynasty, during the Sui and Tang dynasties, monks gathered in Fanchuan, and called "Fanchuan Eight Great Temples" with Xingjiao Temple, Huayan Temple, Xingguo Temple, Niutou Temple, Fazhuang Temple, Zen Temple, Hongfu Temple and Guanyin Temple.

After field investigation, the following four existing Fanchuan Eight Temples exist.

First, Xingjiao Temple

Address: Xingjiao Temple is located in Shaolingyuan, Duqu Street, Chang'an District, Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, about 20 kilometers away from Xi'an City.

Xingjiao Temple, also known as "Tang Huguo Xingjiao Temple", the head of the eight major temples of Fanchuan in the Tang Dynasty, one of the ancestral courts of the eight sects of Chinese Buddhism (also known as the Wisdom Sect and the Benevolence Sect), is located in the territory of Duqu Street, Chang'an District, Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, about 20 kilometers south of the city on the bank of the Shaoling Plain.

Xingjiao Temple is the resting place of Master Xuanzang, a famous translator and traveler in the Tang Dynasty. Later, his ** Voyeur Master and Yuanzhi Master also returned to this spirit and accompanied Xuanzang Ling Pagoda.

On March 4, 1961, Xingjiao Temple was announced as the first batch of national key cultural relics protection units. In 1983, Xingjiao Temple was designated as a national key temple in the Han area.

On June 22, 2014, at the 38th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee held in Doha, Qatar, the Xingjiao Temple Pagoda in Xingjiao Temple was successfully inscribed on the World Heritage List as a heritage site of the "Silk Road: Road Network of the Chang'an-Tianshan Corridor" jointly nominated by China, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.

Second, Huayan Temple

Address: Huayan Temple is located in the southern suburbs of Xi'an, Chang'an District, Weiqu, southeast of Shaoling, on the original slope, Duqu Street.

Huayan Temple is one of the "Eight Sects of Buddhism", the ancestral court of "Huayan Sect", one of the famous Fanchuan Eight Temples in the Tang Dynasty, a national key Buddhist temple, a national key cultural relics protection unit, located in Shaolingyuan, Chang'an District, Xi'an, Shaanxi Province.

According to the "Chronicles of Chang'an", Huayan Temple was built in the Zhenguan period of Taizong of the Tang Dynasty (627-649), which is a famous scenic spot in the south of Chang'an City, which is not only a resort for spring and autumn feasts and summer retreats, but also a place for literati and ink writers to stop and hide, leaving a large number of poems and recitations. The Tang Dynasty poet Du Mu wrote in "Looking at the Ancient Garden": "Yu Sansi returned to Xi and took the west road of Duling. The rock curves and the sky is deep, and the ground is flat and woody. In 1956, Huayan Temple was listed as the first batch of key cultural relics protection units in Shaanxi Province.

In 2006, the Huayan Temple Tower in Huayan Temple was announced as a national key cultural relics protection unit.

Third, Niutou Zen Temple

Address: Shuangzhu Village, Weiqu Street, Chang'an District.

Niutou Temple is located in the southeast of Weiqu, Chang'an District, close to General Yang Hucheng Cemetery. It is one of the eight major monasteries in Fanchuan in the Tang Dynasty.

Fourth, Guanyin Temple
