On August 6, 1965, the South China Sea Fleet of the Chinese Navy ushered in an important naval battle, which was the famous "86 Naval Battle". In this naval battle, Kong Zhaonian, deputy commander of the South China Sea Fleet, personally went to the front line, commanded the operation, and finally won the victory, and even captured Wang Yunshan, the "captain" of the "Jianmen".

Kong Zhaonian, a name that cannot be ignored. He was born in 1925 in Kongji Village, Diao Shanpo Town, Pingyin County, Shandong Province, and was later transferred to the Shantou Marine Police District of the South China Sea Fleet in 1964, where he served as chief of staff and deputy commander. When the "86 Naval Battle" broke out, Kong Zhaonian served as the deputy commander of the Shantou Marine Police District.

The Battle of August 5, 1965 took place on the morning of August 5, 1965, when the "Jianmen" and "Zhangjiang" left Zuoying Port and sailed to Dongshan Island. At about 3 o'clock in the afternoon, the East China Sea Fleet of our Navy discovered the Kuomintang ** and conveyed the news to the South China Sea Fleet.

The South China Sea Fleet immediately prepared and notified the Shantou Marine Police District to prepare for battle. After receiving the notice, Kong Zhaonian, deputy commander of the Shantou Marine Police District, personally boarded the ship to direct the battle.

Under his command, the Shantou Marine Police District formed the first echelon with six torpedo boats and four high-speed escort boats, and arrived at Nanao Qianwan at 11 p.m. on August 5 to stand by and prepare for an attack. At about one o'clock in the morning of August 6, the Shantou Marine Police District discovered the enemy fleet, and Kong Zhaonian immediately ordered the fleet to chase the enemy.

Immediately after the enemy discovered our fleet, Kong Zhaonian was calm and calmly commanded the troops to respond to the battle. At that time, the Kuomintang was relatively strong, relying on the superiority of artillery performance and caliber, and constantly attacked our fleet. If it is hard-hitting, the losses of our fleet will be immeasurable.

Kong Zhaonian used ingenious tactics in the "Battle of 86 Sea" and successfully besieged and sank the "Zhangjiang" and "Jianmen", and won the victory. Leaders highly praised his methods of warfare, and he was subsequently promoted to the rank of deputy commander of the navy.

However, he was inexplicably scrutinized in this position, and although no problems were found, it affected his career. Eventually, he was demoted to the Naval Engineering Academy as vice president. Despite this, Kong Zhaonian remained positive and optimistic, and instead devoted himself to the cultivation of naval talents.

After his retirement, he also served as the deputy commander of the Navy's East China Sea Fleet, enjoying the rank of deputy corps until his death in Beijing in 2019 due to illness at the age of 94.
