Hello everyone, today I want to share with you a common problem in my work: why are documents sent by others always read-only? When we try to modify these documents, we find that the text cannot be deleted and cannot be edited. So, what causes this? How do we solve this problem?
First, we need to understand what makes the document read-only. Many times, this is due to the permission settings of the document. The sender may have selected read-only permissions when sending the document to protect the document from being modified by mistake. In addition, if the document is set to read-only, it may also be because the format or properties of the document are set to read-only. So, how to convert a read-only Word document into an editable state? In fact, the method is very simple, and I will share with you two more practical methods, I hope it will help you!
Method 1: Revoke the read-only permission on a document.
1) First open the document on your computer, click on the Review tab in the navigation bar above, then click on the Restrict Editing option in the toolbar below, and then click the "Stop Protection" button in the Restrict Editing window.
2) Because you need to set a password when setting read-only permissions, this password can be empty, so when we click the stop protection button, if the password is empty, it will go directly to the next step. If the password input box pops up after clicking, it means that you need a password to enter, and if you can contact the other party to get the password, you can directly enter the password, click OK to enter the next step, and if you can't replace the password, please use the second method.
3) Click the Stop Protection button to enter the next step, remove the checkmark in front of "Set Document Protection Mode", and then click Save Document, then you can edit the content in the document.
Method 2: Create a new document by copying and pasting
If there is a password in the document protection settings, and the password cannot be retrieved, then the first method cannot be used to remove the read-only mode. So if the problem cannot be solved by the first method, we can solve it by the second general method. In use, you will find that although the content in the read-only document cannot be modified, all the content in it can still be selected and copied.
So we just need to select all documents through Ctrl+A, then click the copy icon above, or click Ctrl+C directly, then create a new document, and finally select paste in the new document, so that we can edit the new document, and thus achieve our purpose.
Through the above methods, whether it is to remove the read-only permission or create a new document, we can easily convert the read-only word document to an editable state. In our work, we often encounter various problems, but as long as we have the solution, we can easily deal with them. I hope today's sharing can be helpful to everyone!
