Recently, UCAS, the centre for UK university and college admissions, released a report that investigated the actual experience of Chinese students studying in the UK over the past 10 years.
The report gives objective and specific survey data on the choice of study region, major, classroom experience, social life and other issues that everyone is generally concerned about.
Let's take a look
01.Chinese students like to study in the UK
According to the report, 35% of students who are admitted to UK universities choose London, 12% choose Yorkshire and Humbershire, 10% choose the North West, 9% choose Scotland, and only a small percentage choose East Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Universities in the London area include: Imperial College London, University College London, London School of Economics and Political Science, King's College London, etc.

In general, London has become an ideal study abroad city for many students due to factors such as the British capital, many prestigious schools, developed economy, and convenient life. In addition to London, everyone also goes to areas with highly-ranked and popular universities.
02.What colleges and universities are most often chosen by students of different majors?
According to the list of top colleges and universities often selected by professional Chinese students:
Business & Management: University of Manchester, Durham, Greenwich, De Montfort, Hull.
Engineering & Technology: UCL, IC, University of Manchester, Edinburgh, Sheffield.
Design, Creative & Performing Arts: UAL, Kingston, Westminster, Edinburgh, Southampton
The University of Manchester is a top choice for business. In the 2023 business-related rankings released by QS, THE, Financial Times and other institutions, the MBA, Accounting and Finance, Market Management, **Chain Management and other majors of the University of Manchester Business School (AMBS) have performed well.
University College London (UCL) is the first choice for engineering and technology. UCL's School of Engineering Sciences has always been at the forefront of engineering disciplines in the UK. Representative engineering majors include electronic information engineering, chemical processing engineering, mechanical engineering, software system engineering, etc.
The University of the Arts London (UAL) is the first choice for art students. UAL is ranked second in the 2023QS Global Art School Rankings. Many of the biggest names in art, media, and fashion are from UAL. UAL is well-known for its majors in fashion design, jewelry design, graphic design, and art and science.
03.What is the experience of studying in the UK, and will you be excluded?
In terms of classroom experience, the report also shows a set of data, let's take a look
Nearly 70%-80% of students feel that their contributions in the classroom are valued by their classmates and teachers. 66% of students found the time and frequency of contact with teachers to be sufficient, and 88% found the lessons inspiring.
It can be seen that in the past ten years, most students have had a very good or even very satisfying classroom experience studying in the UK. I also get along well with my teachers and can maintain close contact.
The survey report also revealed that 92% of people believe their expectations for the quality of the course have met or exceeded expectations. 90% would recommend the UK as a study destination. 84% of people prefer to live in their city or region.
Despite the high cost of studying in the UK, 91% of Chinese students are highly likely or likely to recommend the UK as a study destination, with some of them describing their study abroad experience with words such as "interesting", "pleasant", "happy", and "memorable". Therefore, you can rest assured that you can study in the UK
04.Worried about not being able to live in the UK and not adapting to local life?
In previous years' consultations, living issues such as accommodation were also one of the concerns of most parents of students
For example, I am worried that students will not be able to live well abroad, eat well, and not be able to adapt to foreign life. There are concerns that students living alone abroad will have some mental health problems. Worry that the child will not be able to integrate into the group and carry out normal social interactions.
In this regard, UCAS also showed data in this regard:
66% of students are satisfied with the quality of student accommodation, with only a single-digit percentage rating it poorly. Sixty-seven per cent of students felt that their university provided sufficient support and resources to enable them to integrate into society as an international student. 69% of students felt I could get mental health support from my university if I needed it. 69% of students felt that they received enough practical support from the university in terms of accommodation. 71% of the students felt that I had received enough guidance from the school during the visa process. Seventy-eight percent of students believe they have built a circle of friends. Eighty-four per cent of students enjoy living in the city where the university is located. 80% of students enjoy their campus life.
From this data, it can be seen that most students have very positive feedback on accommodation, adapting to life, and applying for visas.
Most of the students not only adapted to life abroad, but also established their own circle of friends and enjoyed their study and life abroad.
Therefore, you don't have to worry too much about not being used to being in a foreign country, even if you encounter problems, you will get help or support from the school.
05.Worried about language barriers and reluctant to speak English?
One of the challenges of studying abroad is the language barrier. Many students feel that their pronunciation is not standard, their vocabulary is limited, and they are afraid to communicate with others when they go to the UK.
In fact, British education is very international, creating a good environment for international students, and international students do not feel that there is a barrier to speaking English, and the report also gives a set of data on this:
78% of students feel comfortable speaking English in everyday life in the UK, 79% feel comfortable speaking English in university social life, and 85% feel comfortable speaking English in a lecture-based academic setting
Therefore, when studying in the UK, you don't have to worry about not being able to open your mouth and communicate with others
All in all, everyone's experience of studying in the UK is different. However, according to the statistics in the report, a large number of data in the past ten years, almost 80% of students have given positive or very positive feedback on problems such as not being able to understand the class, being excluded, not living well, and not adapting.
Although studying in the UK is not satisfactory to everyone, more than 90% of Chinese students will recommend or highly recommend studying in the UK! With such a high level of satisfaction, what are you waiting for!
