During MWC24 today, Huawei held a summit called "5G Beyond Growth Summit", which was attended by Li Peng, Senior Vice President and President of ICT Sales and Service.
He first shared the business success of operators in the 5G era: the number of 5G users worldwide has exceeded 1.5 billion, which is equivalent to the results achieved in nine years of 4G development. At the same time, 5G users account for about 20% of global mobile subscribers, making a significant contribution to 30% of mobile traffic and 40% of mobile business revenue.
"2024 marks the first year of 5G-A commercialization, and combined with the development of cloud and artificial intelligence technologies, operators have great potential for commercial growth," Li said. Against this backdrop, he presented four strategic opportunities that global operators can seize.
High-quality networks are the foundation for business success, and operators around the world are actively exploring ways to monetize multi-dimensional experiences. At present, more than 20% of 5G operators have adopted the rate billing model, for example, operators in Thailand have launched 5G hotspot acceleration packages, which allow users to subscribe on demand and time-sharing, thereby increasing the average monthly revenue per user (ARPU) by about 23%.
Li Peng also mentioned that Chinese operators have launched an uplink experience guarantee for online anchors** to improve the clarity and smoothness of the live broadcast experience. This move was well received by streamers, and the ARPU value increased by more than 70%. At the same time, new services such as new calls, cloud phones, and glasses-free 3D are also becoming more and more popular among consumers. New callers prefer to use value-added features such as "personal avatars" and are more willing to pay for real-time experiences such as "one-stop car insurance claims".
Li Peng stressed that 5G has been widely adopted by enterprise users. In China, private 5G networks have been used in more than 50,000 applications in more than 50 industries. New capabilities of 5G-A, such as deterministic latency, precise positioning, and passive IoT, create more opportunities for operators in the B2B market.
The summit showcased the latest achievements and prospects of 5G development for the industry, and demonstrated Huawei's strength and vision as a leading 5G technology provider. With the continuous evolution of 5G technology, it will bring a broader space and more far-reaching impact to the global digitalization process.
