When it comes to Shaolin Temple, the first thing that comes to our mind is not Buddhism, but martial arts. China has always had a saying that "the world's martial arts come out of Shaolin", and most of the monks in Shaolin Temple are warrior monks, all of whom are extraordinary. In Jin Yong and Gu Long's martial arts**, it was also written that the martial arts of Shaolin Temple are outstanding, and it is a major school in the rivers and lakes. So where did this claim come from? The influence of religion in Chinese history is very deep, both for the emperors who pursued Taoism for immortality, and for the emperors who followed Buddhism like Wu Zetian. In fact, when Buddhism arose in China, it should be the period of the Northern and Southern Dynasties, when there were emperors who were very reverent of Buddhism and used all their wealth to build pagodas. By the Tang Dynasty, Buddhism began to flourish.

It was once recorded in the classics that the Shaolin monks raised troops to help Li Shimin defeat the local separatist forces, and since then, the Shaolin Temple has begun to train monks. During the Northern Song Dynasty, the Shaolin Temple also helped the imperial court deal with the Jin soldiers, and the story of the monks and soldiers fighting against the Japanese during the Ming Dynasty was even more well-known. During this period, the monks and soldiers of Shaolin Temple recorded their martial arts skills and training methods one by one, and gradually formed Shaolin's own martial arts system, so that the saying that "the world's martial arts come out of Shaolin" gradually spread. In this way, this tradition continued to the Qing Dynasty, although after several rises and declines, in general, Shaolin has been safe and sound, but there was an incident in the ** period, which led to the burning of the ancient temple of Shaolin Temple, and the loss of historical relics. During the Qing Dynasty, the imperial court and the Shaolin Temple were actually unaccustomed to each other, and the life of the Shaolin Temple has always been difficult. In the ** period, there were always small-scale bandits who came to harass the people and the Shaolin Temple, so the monks and soldiers of the Shaolin Temple were formed again. At that time, there was a person named Henglin Monk in Shaolin Temple, who was not only proficient in Buddhism but also superb in martial arts, and had a bodhisattva heart. At that time, bandits were rampant, and he was appointed as the "Shaolin Temple Guard Corps" by the local **, and there was no way for him to lead the warrior monks of the Shaolin Temple to pick up ** to defend the people and the Shaolin Temple. During this period, the warrior monks led by Henglin defeated many bandits, and also seized a lot of ammunition, which were secretly hidden in the Shaolin Temple. At that time, the local ** came to send a plaque to express their gratitude to the Shaolin Temple.

But I didn't expect that the monks of Shaolin Temple, who originally wanted to defend themselves, changed their taste when they arrived at the back. **Twelve years, Henglin died of illness due to overwork, and his **Miaoxing inherited the position of master. Miaoxing entered the Shaolin Temple at the age of 8, and has been practicing martial arts. * In the eleventh year, the warlord Wu Peifu's division commander once passed by the Shaolin Temple, and when he saw the damage of the Shaolin Temple's Great Treasure Hall, he donated some money to the Shaolin Temple, for which the Shaolin Temple was very grateful to him, and Wu Peifu's army was often in contact. At that time, the warlords were fighting, and Wu Peifu continued to recruit troops in order to enhance his own strength. At that time, a brigade commander under him remembered Miaoxing of Shaolin Temple, and thought that he had both strength and guns**, and the support of Shaolin behind him was very suitable for joining the army, so he strongly recommended Miaoxing to go to Wu Peifu's army. After continuous co-optation, Miao Xing joined Wu Peifu's army and became the commander of the 1st Brigade. The Shaolin Temple, which should have had no position, has since joined the warlord melee. And this also became the fuse of the future disaster of the Shaolin Temple.

* The Fourteen-Year Northern Expedition began, and the warlords were thrown into chaos, and all regions were fighting each other. During this period, Miaoxing died in the war, and his body was transported back to Shaolin Temple by the ** people and buried near Shaolin Temple at the age of 37. Although Miaoxing was sacrificed, the monks and soldiers of Shaolin Temple were still there. **In the seventeenth year, Fan Zhongxiu's troops retreated to Dengfeng County and set up their old base camp in the Shaolin Temple. At that time, Shi Yousan under Feng Yuxiang called all the way, although with the help of Shaolin Temple, Fan Zhongxiu's troops were still defeated by Shi Yousan, and they fled in all directions. When Shi Yousan's troops arrived at the Shaolin Temple, Fan Zhongxiu's troops and the monks in the Shaolin Temple were gone, and Shi Yousan set fire to the Shaolin Temple in order to vent his anger. Su Mingqi, the brigade commander of the National Army stationed in Dengfeng, also brought kerosene and poured it on the main hall, and many Buddhist halls in Shaolin Temple were burned down. According to later statistics, the Shaolin Temple burned more than 1,000 Buddhist scriptures and Shaolin boxing methods through the fire here, including the main hall, the Tibetan Scripture Pavilion and other rooms, a total of nearly 300 were burned, and the Shaolin thousand-year-old temple was destroyed in one fell swoop.

Since then, the Shaolin Temple has not been able to afford to fall, because it burned down too seriously, it took decades to gradually recover, and the reputation of the Shaolin Temple is not loud. It wasn't until the 80s that Hong Kong made a film about the Shaolin Temple that the Shaolin Temple gradually returned to the public eye. The catastrophe of the Shaolin Temple is actually to blame themselves. If Henglin established monks to protect the Shaolin Temple itself, then Miaoxing's joining the warlord was against the rules of the Buddhist temple, and it was only because of his own selfishness that it caused such serious consequences, Miaoxing should not have thought of it. We now see that the Shaolin Temple was rebuilt by later generations, and those precious buildings have disappeared, and we can only see their former appearance in the precious ** left behind. Poor Shaolin Temple's thousand-year-old temple has experienced such a catastrophe, which is really sad.
